I just recieved my bx1860 begining of Oct 2009. It does not have the hst fan protector. I wonder what gives? My engine was made Nov 2008. Someone had this tractor for awhile. I'm calling the dealer. Also my digital readout says 1850 when I start it. I'm starting think I got hosed. What do you guys think?

Sounds as if it was older stock, for sure, but don't think you can jump to the conclusion that it is a 50. Is your hood metal?

Somewhere there is a list of the improvements made from the 50 to the 60. Might want to inventory your machine to see if you have them all. If you do, you have a 60, albeit an older one. You will just have to locate a new protector place. Dealer cost is 30-35 bucks. Rumors swirl as to availability being Nov1. We shall see.

hump,

One quick thing. Lift your seat. Is the engine cut off safety switch inside the seat? That is a feature of the 1860. The switch isn't under the seat, but inside the seat. I believe this information to be correct.

Correct - I traded a 50 back for a 60 series. Metal hood and fenders, hydraulic pressure at idle (to move FEL, for example), no abrupt stopping in reverse, different side grille design on the hood. That's all I can think of but might have missed something.

Upon rereading this thread, I realized that my dealer had quoted me for the older, smaller version, so I sent him another email asking for the newer, larger one (Part No. K2681-21212) - hope he can get it!:p

Spoke to my dealer and Kubota Canada, and I can't get it in Canada, so I guess I'll have to drive from Toronto to Buffalo or Niagara Falls.

I lifted the seat and there is a wire going to the center of the seat. It looks to me that the switch is in the seat. I can see the mounting bracket receased in the seat. I just don't have any movement on the fel or mmm at idle. I will let the tractor warm up a bit before trying agian. My dealer had told me this was a 2010 tractor. I feel like an idot. What did I know? I know you can buy 2010 cars now. My dealers looking into it on Monday. We will see? Thanks for your help.

That's OK. Anyhow, with the safety switch into the seat, the metal hood, etc, you have a 60. Mine produces an 1850 in the rpm screen too. No big deal.
As for being a 2009 or 2010, that is rather goofiness, imho. There really isn't such a thing in tractors in comparison to the auto industry. It was built in a certain year and it has this or that Serial # and it is this or that model.
If by being "a 2010", you're dealer meant it was new stock, I wonder why it is missing the HST guard? Someone more knowledgeable than I might be able to tell you how to determine your exact build date. I do not know.

If you bought it new ask for the Certificate of Origin. They should have given it to you. The year will be on there.

Jeff H,

Never got that. I know there was one when we bought the new car last year. Never knew there to be one for the tractor.

Gotta ask for that C of O. Still, the whole "model year" thing is fuzzy wuzzy when it comes to tractors. You can/will get a build date, but sometimes you get a date when the dealer took receipt of it. With shipping from Japan and so forth, there would be a month or two expected difference there. Laying around in stock adds even more possible time.

In the end, it is pointless. If the tractor is new, it is new. It is a current 1860 model. That said, your suspicions that it wasn't built in the past few months seems pretty accurate, given the missing HST protection and engine build date. But still, I assume you looked on the hour meter? It read something like .4 hours? You got a new tractor. Enjoy it. Inadvertently, you may even have gotten a good price on it precisely because it was in stock before some latest price increase. Another possibility was that your dealer made a slightly stronger margin in that he benefited from the fact that it was stocked ahead of a price increase. Caveat emptor.
