Waxing tractor

I suppose.
A very reputable body shop owner once told me, wax does not allow paint to breath, if you want to ruin the metal that is painted wax the paint. Had my JD650 for 20 some years, never waxed it once, sold it with virtually no rust to speak of.

I have never heard of paint needing to breathe, wouldn't that be part of the oxidation process? People have been waxing their vehicles for decades, although I do remember reading that it is not necessary with clear coat over the paint.

I do see waxes made for clear coat, the clear coat must still let the paint breathe.

Clear coat is still paint, still needs to be Waxed.

Once fresh paint has gassed off, there is no harm in waxing it and protecting the finish.

I was a auto painter, owned a paintshop. I think wax would be a good idea. I would compare it to polishing you shoes or oiling a blued gun or the stock. Some people take good care of their tools others go a step further. Never waxed my tractor but now reading this I may.

Get it oil sprayed ... maybe some of that Brazilian oil?

as stated paint only needs to breath during the curing process which depending on temps could be 4-12 weeks or more. once the solvents are gone then it should be waxed. i am a custom painter by trade and also do r&d for a paint company. as for my own tractor, once maybe twice a year i will powerwash it then throw a coat of wax on it. its a bx24 and many of the parts are plastic on it which fades and gets chalky very easy. i'm not real **** about the tractor. one day when i sell it i just want it to look presentable and not like i just let it go.

Well you guys shamed me into it.. No I didn't wax her...

but I did wash her.. Maybe I'll try waxing her next time now that she is good and clean.. I did notice a few blemishes after the wash but that's OK she works hard and none worse for wear. She is getting older ya know and I do put her trough a lot.. She has always been there for me when ever I needed to get those tuff things done.. So I figured what the hay..

Have to run now it's black Friday and she wants to go shopping..

hr3 hope she likes crowds.

I noticed something when I washed mine. The loader arms are boxed steel with open ends. Dirt had both ends packed full, I had to spray into each arm for a while to get all the soil that was packed in there out. I'm sure this would not be good in the long run. Something others may want to check.
