I think you have a lot on your plate for all to be done by one piece and you would loose on time. You might want to try and list out everything you want to do and the time frames you want to spend doing them!

Then set up by the list as to what to buy! For the 1,000 lbs into a pick-up a thirty plus horse will have to be used. To old and you loose good power steering making the loader work harder as well as navagating with a mower in the yard.

old isn't so much an issue of power steering.. just buy one with power steering when looking at old machines.

on fords.. you could get it as an option in 55 ( could retrofit to 53 )

For a place to start, I'd recommend what I have, (Deere 4300), but for a little more beef, a Deere 4700 (larger frame and more hp). Hydrostatic, FEL, forks, 3 ph with 3rd SCV. Mine has served very well for over 10 years now.

I've not found many things the FEL won't lift, given there is adequate weight on the rear.
Other brands will serve you well too.

Here is my intended uses.

Mowing once every week,2 or 3 if it's a dry month.
Scraping/grading two 175ft. drive ways and 1/8th mile dirt road once a month or more if we have a lot of rain.
Moving and spreading gravel about twice a year, depends on traffic and rain.
Lifting engines out of vehicles, roughly 6 to 8 times a year maybe more.
Loading crates,once or twice a month,usually under 600lbs.
Loading crates close to 1000lbs,maybe 3 times a year max.

I have a 3pt hitch boom pole with a hook that I can borrow for lifting engines.I would probably buy it if I had a tractor.

My current set up is using an engine hoist that sinks into the ground.I usually pick the engine/trans out, push the junker out of the way,and back the truck under it.I have a pallet ready to set the engine/trans on,and then build a create around it.It works but it's dangerous. The hoist gets wobbly some times.

That's gotta be close to 1000lbs with those to logs. That set up would work for me.

It would have been nice to have a back hoe tonight. The culverts on the road below us,in the valley, got plugged up from debris washed down by all the rain. We've had a lot of rain over the past 18 hours. The water in the valley was 16 to 18 inches deep. The water came over the hubs on my 2wd 01 Ranger.Sometimes we can't even leave our area for days when we have a lot of rain and the culverts get completely clogged. All it would take to cure the problem is the neighbors keeping the dead tree limbs and leaves cleaned up out of their yards.Code enforcement has been giving tickets for it since the county came out and cleared the culverts back in the spring. We made it about four months before everything went to crap again.I look for code enforcement to come talk to me about it again.I am so glad I don't have trees on my property when this happens.I really wouldn't use a back hoe a lot but in cases like this it would be a nice thing to have.Oh well, what can you do.

Here's what I was speaking of.

Unloading%20the%20Gravely.JPG

About 1989 I built up a three section Clark mast on a Case 1370 (160 hp) dual wheel tractor. With the three section mast it would lift up to 25 feet.
At the time I think I paid about $800 for the mast in good condition and built the subframe to attach to the tractor at a shipyard. Used it to erect a metal building and saved a lot of crane rental time.

I would reccomend a deere 4x10 or 4x00 series tractor, 30hp and up for your needs.

Everything I have been looking at has been 28 to 35HP.I considered a used Chinese tractor and buy a better American made later.Everything I see that interest me is over $10,000.I wanna get a little closer to $5000.My main implements I need is a mower for the yard and scape blade.I had considered renting myself out :D when I get a tractor to make a little money. We have some fields still left around, some dirt roads, and driveways that need a good scrape and gravel job.How would I price a jobs like that?I've always been an indian when it comes to operating. The chief always priced the jobs.
