New fence to keep people out

An interesting side note, if an owner posts his own property "No Hunting" in PA, the owner can not legally hunt on the property either.

Que? I guess if you posted it "no dumping" you might get a ticket if you dropped some trash on the way to the garbage can? :(

You could put a "T" at the top of each post to make a horizontal component that would prevent someone from being able to climb at a post and step over.

When I was in the military I encountered a barbed wire fence that had the normal vertical set of wires plus a set at 45 dergees attached to posts that leaned against the vertical posts. It was pretty hard to cross.

Perhaps a sign indicating that the owner of the property bears no responsibility for any poisoning that results from the mushrooms picked there, might be a deterrent.
Are you anywhere near Girona/Barcelona?

There's no way I could be held responsabile for that. Anyway, they mostly pick just one easy to identify kind, and destroy the rest, mushrooms or whatever. You won't find a single mushroom standing.

I'm a couple hundred miles from Barcelona, and I do get people from there. It's probably around 4 hours drive.

It's not unusual to see over 50 people at once on the property.

First couple of mornings of deer season, I go out and patrol the property lines with my 4 wheeler. I figure the noise of the 4 wheeler let's them know that I'm out watching.

Ohio law makes it illegal for someone to hunt on land without WRITTEN permission. Have you marked your property lines with "no hunting/no tresspassing" signs?

Not enough signs (1 or 2). I will put one every 25 meters or so. Experience in other villages show that signs alone reduce people by 80%. There will be signs mentioning that tresspasing and muchroom picking are not allowed.

I also plan to anulate most parking places with big stones. That will also make it a bit more difficult.

Yes, I will have to patrol the property a lot. I'll have to move there at the start of the season.

In this area, people were very happy with the invasion. They thought that many people = prosperity = money. They start to realize that people is not equal to money but to problems. What you want is few people that spend lots of money, not millions that only leave trash and problems.

They also complain they can hardly make a living, but can't realize that mushrooms are their most valuable asset. Wish I could convince a couple and sell the mushrooms. I might even hire somebody to do so (I can't pick muchrooms for long due to physical problems).

If I put a no mushroom picking sign, I will be able to pick them. As far as hunting, I don't think I can deny hunting on my property as it's not big enough. What I can is deny access.

That's an idea, or a double fence close together. I don't think I could do the T one, as it's not high enough. Barbed wire in front, and electrified behind could be very painful.

I put up signs around my barn that say "Warning: Biohazard, Experiment in progress" with the appropriate scary looking warning symbols. I don't think most people would want to mess with that. ;)

How about a sign that say's " Mushroom picking, $500 per day per person. Pay attendant"

If their going to do it try and make some money. I had a "city slicker" neighbor that bought all kinds of animals and grazed his place to dirt. His mules and goats where always on my place. I finally told him my land rented for $250 a day per animal for grazing, I haven't had an issue since, in fact he bought and "installed" (if that's what you want to call it) goat wire on the inside of the fence. If he would have asked I would have helped him from day one, but he suffers from "cityitous".

With our horses, I don't want any of the wild shooters I hear near our horses.

Ken

We only just signed papers for the purchase on 12/8. All entrances to the property are marked. I will shortly be posting the rest of the property.

It seems daunting but i think if you work in little steps it may get done.
1. where do they park? can you get them towed if they are on your property.
2. can you put up signs charging for the amount of mushrooms they take, or better yet charge them with theft? especially if you hire people to pick and sell them yourself.
3. can you make some natural deteriants. Planting any type of thorney bush around the property would still allow animals through but keep the humans out.
4. if you can get some manure and spread it around the permiter, if they are city folks they wont want to tramp through manure, and on top of that you can say your are using a natural fertalizer "going green".
5. anyone you find on your property give them a fake warning something along the lines of boy i hope your car will be ok when you get back we have had kids smashing into them lately.
6. buy some fake big snakes and put them near the walk ways people use....and put in a trail cam to have some laughs when you see them running away.

Electric fence. Get a charger like the 220 volt models. When a person gets into a fence like this, they will think they have been struck by lightning or are having a seizure. You could also hang up signs that say, "TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT, SURVIVORS WILL BE PROSECUTED."
