It seams to me that if the wire is hard to pull up it would be impossible to push it down. The gravel will spread when you pull the wire up because it is unconstrained on top. As the wire comes up the gravel will fill in. The gravel will not spread as easily when you push down because is constrained by the ground.

I think it will be just fine.

Russ

BINGO!!!!!
Wire is easier to pull up than force back down in the concrete.

razvy,
I'm very impressed with your project. Thanks for posting the pictures. Did you build the forms for the poured walls yourself?

Obed - Did you put down a plastic vapor barrier before they poured your slab ? I hope so since that control moisure which can lead to mold and it may prevent radon as well but it sure does reduce dampness in the structure.

Yes, under the main floor garage slab and under the basement slab. The vapor barrier under the garage slab was not required by code unless the garage is heated. We put a barrier under the garage just in case I want to heat it. We do plan on insulating the garage.

Monday evening under the lights the concrete workers finished all the flatwork other than cutting the stress joints. The last thing done Monday night was to seal the concrete. One of the workers was out there in his sock feet rolling the seal on the concrete with a roller.

Tuesday the stess joints were cut. The joints are approximately 10 feet apart. In the garage they are approximately 8 feet apart. Joints were cut at all the interior corners because concrete cracking is very prone at these spots.

Obed, the flatwork looks very good from here. Must be a great feeling to have that in place. You get to stop staring at a hole in the ground :) I don't see j-bolts. What's the plan for those?

Did they use screed bars for the troweling?
Dave.
