Cub/Yanmar SC2400 or Kubota BX2660?

Being here first I guess I'll give my two cents! I do find that you are pricing two different size tractors and as stated the 2360 is the correct match for the 2400.

As far as people not knowing about the Cadet Yanmar team I feel it is a good match. The Yanmar company built john deere tractors for years and put them on the map as far as dependability. Can't say that so much today as jd is building more of their own and the users are not as happy with the newer chassis as they were with the older models.

The Cadet Yanmar tractors so far seem to be as reliable as the kubota's as when they go out, they don't seem to come back so I'd say the initial build quality is there. I'd also say that if they are like the old ones, for the numbers out there they have held up well.

For the time that Kubota has been in this country and you can go back to the early 70's they have had a reputation that nobody has been able to keep up with as far as being inovative and well built. There are plenty of dealers in most all areas of the country so resale will remain strong no matter where you go.

I have no reason to back down on the Cadet/Yanmar compacts for quality for what they have shown us so far!

Y'all are great on this forum. Thanks for so much input.

What I've found with the two different tractors is that the HST on the Cub/Yanmar feels a little stronger up hill. I like that, but the Kubota feels great too. Either is waaaay better than my lawnmower, JDL118LTD. The Cub/Yanmar has two pumps so steering is separate from attachments. Don't really know that this will make any difference to me. Worried about the Cub not being out for very long and the quality and longevity is uncertain because of that. Understand that these are built by Yanmar and the Cub portion of the deal was only a way for Yanmar to tap into a distributor network. I like the QD's on the loader better on the Kubota, like the controls position for the FEL better on the Yanmar/Cub, like the color better on the Kubota, like the work lights better on the Yanmar/Cub (Kubota doesn't have them, but to be fair they look like the bucket will be in the way of them probably anyway on the Cub), trust both dealers the same, but the Kubota is much closer to my property, but implements, etc are all higher at the Kubota, not just the tractor.

The BX2360's the local dealer has have been on the lot for well over a year and are faded, some rust, etc. Dealer says he'll warranty prior to delivery and have them looking new again, but the plastic hood will not get totally back to "brand new look". It's only $800 cheaper than the brand new BX2660, so that is why I chose that one for the comparison. I've looked at all major brands and got to these two tractors that I like best.

Have 3 friends with Kubota's and they all swear by them. Have used two of them and enjoyed, except for on hills (both L's). Don't know anyone with a Cub/Yanmar, so no reference point. Same length, same width, same weight limits front and back.

I would think that something that may be very important is the chasis, but I don't know anything about them other than they both look beefy. Does anyone have input on this or other things that I should consider in addition the duly noted resale value (that strikes me just fine BTW)?

Art, I hadn't thought much of this until you mentioned it. The Cub has a shift on the go feature on the left rear fender, but I can't remember now if the Kubota does. I can go look tonight, but do you know if it does too?

On flats no problem with either but by the time I was cresting the hill the L was slowing down and the B never changed. The weight difference was using the HP pulling the L up the hill. Flat land the L was great but hill sides spooked me to on the L. The RFM would sort of swing the B around when I reached the bottom of the hill but knew it was going to do it so no problem. It was like it wasn't even back there on the L. Weight makes a difference in several ways.

I had this same issue slowing down with the L2500 so it is very reassuring to hear the lighter B didn't hesitate. I'm guessing the RFM is a rotary finish mower? If so, did I read this right that you we able to pull a 60" 3PH mower with the smaller B? I figured I could only use a 4" bush hog on the SCUTs. I'm even more impressed now.

Well, the reason the BX2360 sales may have slowed a bit, if this forum is a reasonable sampling, is simple. The BX2660 just won over a lot of hearts. For the $18 a month difference in payment, let's say, look how much more tractor you get. It is more than 3 additional hp; it's the other "might miss them at first glance" type features. Frankly, a lot of the buyers noticed.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that BX2660 is the fresher stock.
Technically, only the side bonnet panels are plastic. The hoods themselves are metal.

That is true of the newer models including the 2660, but the faded hoods I was referring to were on the older model 2360's. They are kept on a show lot completely outdoors and since they've been in the elements for so long, they look rough. The dealer hasn't ordered any new 2360's in a while because everyone is buying the 2660's. Seems like every time I stop in, he has sold another one and is uncrating the next.

They MAY be 50 series as these had the plastic hoods. AFAIK, the plastic compound hood distinguishes the 50s.

I'll check in. I may have misspoken, but I thought they were either 2360 or 2330's. Either way, he only has those two 23XXs and both are '08's. He told me the newer models all have metal hoods. For the $800 difference, I immediately gravitated to the fresh 2660 for all the obvious reasons.

I have also learned that while the Cub/Yanmar advertises the reverse air flow and uses it heavily as a marketing tool, the Kubota does the exact same thing, but does not advertise it. Last time I was at the Kubota dealer we popped the hood and the fan blows from the rear and out the front. Cooler operator station. The dealer didn't realize this was set that way until we looked at it.

Yeah, that's what I thought and figured you'd straighten it out mentally. It can get to be a blur afterwhile.

You should know that Kubota did a bunch of upgrades to the 60's series. Like you, I'd have to save a whole ton of money to get me to move on a 50 series, which I don't think is possible. The dealer paid what he paid for them and can or would only take so much gas on selling them. Me? I like a fresh machine too. It's not like we buy a new machine everyday*, eh? Want a new one.

We choose not to because we did not trust that MTD would stay in this for the long haul... given how they've jump from Mitsubishi, to Daedong, to Mahindra, etc, etc, etc. Curious what your impressions have been.
