Cub/Yanmar SC2400 or Kubota BX2660?

Yeah, it was that MTD connection that I tactfully tried to gently bring up in an earlier post. Yanmar has everyone's respect, but the partner in this project has to be considered.

I had this same issue slowing down with the L2500 so it is very reassuring to hear the lighter B didn't hesitate. I'm guessing the RFM is a rotary finish mower? If so, did I read this right that you we able to pull a 60" 3PH mower with the smaller B? I figured I could only use a 4" bush hog on the SCUTs. I'm even more impressed now.

I have a Landpride 6' (72") Rear Finish Mower 3ph rear PTO powered. Had a cheap RFM before the Landpride with beautiful welds that were so good you could hardly see them and they were so fine that they kept coming apart. I would call it a piece of crap but I have to admit my yard is not golf course greens smooth so it may be OK for a smoother yard but I'd never buy another one no matter what type yard I had/have. It was light enough that the B handled it like it wasn't there. French made. Barlows gave me my full purchase price back for the light weight pretty one toward the "TANK" Landpride. Very obvious welds on the Landpride, my new way of measuring the ruggedness of an implement, visible welds. :) My B7800 had no problem powering or pulling it. Don't know if a bush hog requires more pto hp than a rear finish mower or not. I think BX's are Sub Compact Utility Tractors (SCUTs) and B's are Compact Utility Tractors (CUTs), not 100% sure but I think so. May be wrong and sure I'll hear if I am and that will be OK because I need to know.

Yeah, that's what I thought and figured you'd straighten it out mentally. It can get to be a blur afterwhile.

You should know that Kubota did a bunch of upgrades to the 60's series. Like you, I'd have to save a whole ton of money to get me to move on a 50 series, which I don't think is possible. The dealer paid what he paid for them and can or would only take so much gas on selling them. Me? I like a fresh machine too. It's not like we buy a new machine everyday*, eh? Want a new one.

*JohnThomas excepted:D

bp, You were absolutely right. I went by again yesterday. They are 50's. One is in the shop being painted with a new paint and being "warrantied" to bring them up to snuff for the lot. Dealer says they'll be 99% right looking when he's done with them and the new paint will prevent fade issue (still plastic underneath, though, which makes me think I may not want the SC2400 for $2k less since it is plastic also and is more comparable to this 2350 like the others have mentioned previously).

He quoted me on the 50 as follows: $12500 with the MMM and Loader, less than $9k tractor alone. With MMM, Loader, Landpride tiller and bushhog $15,500. 0%. The BX2660 I'm wanting is about $2k more in each case.

I also drove a B2320 that is a smidge more than the BX2660 in each configuration and now I'm all confused. I liked it too, but feel that maybe less HP might be too little in the long run so am still leaning toward the BX2660. The B2320 had a more accessible break pedal and also has a mid range and felt pretty stable too, unlike the L's I've driven in the past.

TS - The B2320 with larger tires and 3 range hydro will likely put more of it's hp to the ground than the BX2660. More weight also helps. On the other side, PTO hp is PTO hp, so the BX would have an advantage there.

Never did look at the SC2400 since I couldn't find any near me to see and test drive. The spec's do look good for it. Enjoy your tractor shopping. It can be fun and frustrating all at the same time.

I have a sc2400... If you doubt it being a yanmar tractor, search for "EA2400"... It's a red version of the cub with a different loader and stickers that say nothing but Yanmar.

These new SC2400's get a bad wrap for being tied to MTD (ie, crap), but it's truely a yanmar product.

I posted in the other thread and I'll say it here too. You can't go wrong with either tractor. I looked real hard at the 2360 before going and buying my 2400.

Art, do you sell these?

We choose not to because we did not trust that MTD would stay in this for the long haul... given how they've jump from Mitsubishi, to Daedong, to Mahindra, etc, etc, etc. Curious what your impressions have been.

Sure do although not in the same numbers but we have had excellent results! So far the quality has been right there on intitial build quality without having to come back to us.

Art, I hadn't thought much of this until you mentioned it. The Cub has a shift on the go feature on the left rear fender, but I can't remember now if the Kubota does. I can go look tonight, but do you know if it does too?

Don't know if you have found out by now but the rest of the industry has to stop to shift the range to do it properly.

MTD has the ability to build in every price range. It unfortunately has done that instead of only staying with higher end products.

The numbers are not in the high quality end but in the price end and that sometimes means that someone buying a name, not the product will get burned in there mind. Not that they didn't get what they paid for but what they thought they were paying for.

We lost a L&G mechanic about three or four years ago to the big green guys. He left them after a couple of years and when he came in looking or hoping to have his old job back I asked the question of how do they compare, His response was, I didn't know how good cadets really were untill I worked on the other guys!

We had the same story with one of our service managers.
