2 inch receiver welded to lift arms

Thinking some more, you could weld two short 2" sleeves, one on each FEL arm on the outsides facing up. Then you could weld up a cross bar that would slip down into the two outboard sleeves. Put a 2" receiver on that for your attachments. That way it could be removable, you would not be welding on the rollover tube and it would be centered, too. Have to look to see if there are tire clearance issues, etc... It is midnight, snowing and I'm barefoot or I would go out to the shed and look at mine right now! :D

Have you considered putting a reciever on the inside of the top of your bucket?

The bucket may not be on. I have three buckets and would this interfere with loading it.

If I had an electric winch on the receiver on the plate, then I would not have to go there to operate it.

I bought a hook like yours and never installed it. Just never got around to it.

Maybe we ought to broaden this thread to things mounted on your lift arms.

I appreciate all the comments here. I have just not reached a conclusion yet. More comments please, if you don't mind.

Just a casual observation from looking at the hyd winch installed on a PT, I believe the common sense approach would be a straight line pull, with the loader arms in float mode. If the load was to great, then chain the back of the PT to a tree or something secure. The most power from the winch will come from the first layer of cable on the winch, and a double line will improve the pulling power. A snatch block around a tree might come in handy also.

I also have a small wireless winch from HF that I use for small jobs.

I really like the way Carl does it. Much safer for the tractor.

I have a gas powered portable winch that i use - great for pulling out logs. And for pulling out the PT when buried in mud. It is a capstan winch so the strength of pull is always the same and you are only limited in distance by the length of rope you have (but use low stretch rope). It is a simple concept but the rope bag for stuffing the rope in works great. No tangles or twists. I have never had it knot on me. I use a 300' rope and only pull out as much as i need. I had planned on mounting a reel to the tractor but this bag is much more convenient.

Brand? Model? Suggestions?

Inquiring minds would like to know...

All the best,

Peter

All of this is due to Ken guys, When I purchased my PT from him he had PT weld on hooks to the frame both front and back.

For me I have an el-cheapo HF winch but it works. I am only looking for something to pull me up out of a ravine if I stall and can't restart. If I get really stuck the neighbors Dozer will come to my rescue...

Moss, I do ot plan to weld on the rollover bar, but the large bar behind it. I shutter at the thought of welding on the rollover bar. I envision welding through it and then it will not rotate . What do you think of welding to this.

That with standing, your comment on the two 2 inch receivers is intriguing. It should be very strong and have minimal interference with anything.

I'll tell you, the other night I went out to plow and took a look at the lift arms and saw the cross bar that you mentioned. Then I slapped my forehead and thought about my comments to you and the rollover bar. DOH! I would never weld on the rollover bar, either. I forgot about the large cross bar tube at the top. Then I looked at is some more and wondered if welding something to the center of that. If the item is large and you lift the arms, it could hit the steering wheel or the front of the dash. You know about clearances and stuff like that, so just temp it up first and see how things fit.

I also looked at the outside edges of the lift arms and there is probably enough clearance between the tires and frame to put some receiver tubes on the outside near the crossbar. Seems like if you then slipped a trailer hitch down into those receiver tubes and locked them in it would be additional strength for the top of the FEL arms. If you put a winch on it, the pull would be close to the top links of the FEL arms, which is plenty strong. However, I wonder if it would tend to pull the tractor nose down from that height, instead of up and out of the suction that you are stuck in? Hmmm. Lots to ponder. :)
