Hydro's and brake pedals

"It is a poor workman who blames his tools."

O.K. I won't blame the right footed three pedaler. Its my fault. :D

Really, though, why did they even bother to put them there? Why didn't they put them in the preferred spot. the spot where they are the most useful? I have not seen anyone on this board say they prefer them on the same side as the direction pedal(s). It is a shortcoming in the design plain and simple. Yes, we can learn to work with it. That doesn't make it a good design.

Wonder if it is a regional thing? Kubota's are a Japanese tractor. Maybe they farm and/or work differently than we in the US?

Look at motorcycles. It was decades before the controls were standardized.

So if my brake pedals were on the left side, where would the clutch go? Even with HST, I still have a clutch.

Having a clutch pedal on an HST is part of the poor design!:D:D

Bobcat, Cat, and ASV skidsteers and track loaders I have used did not have one.

For a CUT though, how would you engage/disengage the PTO or change range? I just assumed they all had a clutch for this reason at least. Otherwise, you wouldn't really need a clutch.

Actually, having a pedal is a pain. I like the electric over hydraulic joystick control of both the loader and the "tractor" when I have used Cat and ASV skidsteers/track loaders...

JD uses a electro/hydraulic PTO clutch so there is just a ON/OFF switch for the PTO...Downside to this system is you can't "feather" the PTO on, it's all or nothin'.

Range changing is done at a stop, no clutch needed.

That is your thinking. That is the exact reason of why I purchased my Mahindra 3215HST. I have the clutch to engage my PTO. Not the electro-hydraulic BAM it's on PTO. The gear version of my tractor has the electro-hydraulic PTO, no thank you, I prefer to be able to feather the PTO.

Like DanD78 I have a JD 3320 e-Hydro. Brakes of the left, hydro pedals on the right. I rarely use the individual brake pedals for turning, but when I do, I release the MFWD and then unlink the pedals, step on the one I want, and press the forward motion hydro pedal. The tractor spins on a dime, and on the very rare occasion they have worked to get me out of a tight spot.

I am old school with my 8N and find it positively necessary to have individual brakes not so much for turning but for traction control. There is no differential lock on the N so the split brakes are used to slow a spinning rear tire and allow the other rear tire to get into the action. Easy operation of split brakes on any model is a plus, but not necessarily something that would make or break a deal.

I am not a gotta be green guy, but I will say that the user platform on the open cab Deere 3000 20 series is as ergonomically well thought out and implemented as any CUT I have seen or sat on. It cost more money to do it that way, and the cost is passed on to the buyer, but after a hard day of seat time the cost difference becomes negligible.
