Hydro's and brake pedals

Mace Canute, I'm going to steal that joke and use it as my own.:D:D:D

I don't know how I'd operate my tractor without differential brakes.

Yea, but ur picture tells a thousand words...

You gotta look at what they are geared towards though. Most 15-35hp CUT's are compact utility tractors made and marketed towards homeowners and small landowners. How many homeowners need a CUT with steering brakes? I have 5 acres, and take care of another 8 acre property. I have never used the steering brakes, except to experiment a bit. Tore up the driveway, and left some big marks in the grass...

If I was plowing and/or discing, I would be looking at more of an AG tractor made to do that.

I would still be curious, if you do a lot of discing in 4wd, how has the wear and tear been on the front axle and driveline when you do a hard brake turn at the end of a row?

people can say what they wont but its a fact if your doing row crop stlye farming turn brakes are a must theres no if and are buts about it . no matter how tight the turning radius is on the tractor turn brakes make all the difference whenever disking a field . and lets be for real here if your gonna be using them while farming doesnt it make more sence for them to be on the left ??

sure you can get by with them on the right but its a bad design. no need to defend a bad design out of brand loyality . thers things about my jd i dont like. i will never defend a poor design . that mind set of living with something just cause its a overall good machine eventually sinks a product line.

If we leave our CUT's in the shed or out for a lawn ornament, won't need most of the good design that I have in my CUT. :)
I say that in fun, and in jest, but steering brakes are just that. If not needed, leave them off. But just don't add them in a position and place they cannot be used. IMO. :)

Farmalls? big Jd backhoes? It's always been good to have the brakes both on the right. Like our teenage friend told us, put your heel on the treadle. Isn't that an old racing techinque?

this was one feature that steered me away from many models. Why, oh why, would anyone EVER want the brake pedals on the same side as the direction pedals?

Moss, did it steer you away with one foot or two?? Check the tire pressure..

Kyle is now officially the man. The rest of us may as well be pantyhose underware bombers.

Which end of the boiled egg do you crack

Whichever end is closest to you! Now the question is do you run cold water over the egg or do you let your fingers get hot??:D:D

If memory servers me correctly the Ford 8N has the brake pedals you have to stand on on the proper side side. So if you have a ford 8N you do not have to think about which side the brakes are on!:D:D

Patrick_g You sure make good points. I tried the cruise control and the two foot driving thing today. When I hit cruise the cruse turned off so that was a bust. And man, I'll never make a 2 foot driver. C'est la vie.

On my L4400HST when using the cruise control if the brakes are operated separately the cruise continues like how I use it when I row crop and need to make a spin turn.:D I cant use the cruise in reverse though.

alot of people plobly buy a tractor to do alot of things or atleast i did anyway . what i have found is whenever i use the turn brakes to turn the front wheels turn so sharp its almost like they pull the tractor around . besides its not like the front axel has a diff lock or something. theres nothing in the literature that says not to use the turn brakes with 4wd engaged. just because you may not no how to properly use them doesnt mean they dont have a place on a cut.

jake wich jd backhoes have you seen with the brakes on the right ? every one that ive operated has been on the left with a split pedal just to help turn . not saying there isnt one just wondering what model this is .

I would not need steering brakes. It is an ancient artifact of days gone by :D

I personally don't use mine much, but for all those who have said they couldn't live without them....

After all the trend has been heading more to zero turn radius, than getting away from this "old technology" Skid steers, mowers etc.

I was thinking maybe Kub would catch wind of these debates and possibly change the design. After all there have been at least a few here that have said yes, it is would be a deal breaker.

But with all the faithful owners making excuses for them, there's no incentive to change anything :(

JB.
