I personally don't use mine much, but for all those who have said they couldn't live without them....

But with all the faithful owners making excuses for them, there's no incentive to change anything :(

I don't seem to see Kubota guys making EXCUSES for their tractors, I see Kubota guys who learn to use their Kubota tool and other brand operators learning to use theirs. Those who claim to own the high ground, the single best way for everyone are delusional. Ditto those bozos who are so small minded that they can't understand anyone not wanting to only do what bozo does the way bozo does it and not whatever it takes to best utilize what you have. Does anyone really think any of the major MFG continue to produce tractors that don't please a serious segment of the buying population? None of the well established models of the various brands have really poor operational characteristics for a decent percent of users or the model (or style of user interface) would have been dropped. The marketplace is Darwinian to a large degree.

This pedal thing is just one of the reasons that I push people to check out the ergonomics of the tractors that they are considering. What works for one person does not mean that it works for someone else. A lot depends on what you are using the tractor for. I think that it is a poor design to have the the brakes and the hydro control on the same side. And yet I have a Mahindra 3215HST that has this very thing. It has made no difference for me, the only time that I step on the brakes is to set the parking brake. I am not making excuses, just stating the facts as they apply to me. ;)

Yup, we can have a little fun with them with out it becoming brand bashing :)

I agree with that, and I'm sure I would adapt to the side saddle or one foot "race car driver" thing.
Shoot, I probably come up with something like a broken off broom handle, some baling wire, a C-clamp etc. etc.

Just messing with ya :)

But let's put it another way, is there anyone who wouldn't buy a KUB if they did put the brakes on the left side? Or is there anyone who could honestly say they couldn't live without it the way it is?
If the answer is no to both of these questions then.....

I believe in the "KISS" principle and I apply it to Kubota's design concept. I think they have two thoughts in mind, one economical, one logical for the City Farmer.

1. They sell these tractors in gear drive or HST. They only have to design one brake pedal configuration to serve both. Economical.

2. They place the HST treadle on the right side to serve the City Farmer who wants the go pedal under his right foot like the gas pedal on his car/truck.

If you are an operator that needs individual brakes in certain situations, Kubota's design is horrible. No brand slam intended, just a simple fact.

Secondly, if you are an operator that can't seem to grasp the concept of needing individual brakes for steering or control, let it go. You aren't going to understand the above mentioned group and they aren't going to understand you.

Lastly, with my previous HST Kubota the part I hated worst was when on a steep grade it was a challenge to get off the treadle and onto the brake pedals before the tractor moved an additional couple inches. I'm in that situation frequently when working in the timber. Scares the **** out of ya!!! If you can't understand that, then I place you in the second category of operator. No slam intended, just differences in use of equipment.

Great discussion, just don't quite get the brand loyalty based remarks. I think most of us are simply talking about a design choice, regardless of color. :)

I see the HST and brakes on the same side seems to offend some of us who remark with incredulity how they just don't understand why anyone would want that. Check the stats. How many tractors are like that. Oodles of Kubotas. What percent of the operators feel it is a problem. I have never personally met an operator of a machine configured like that who had any negative comment to make. (NOTE: I have never personally met any of those on this site who are negative about it.)

So I guess us operators of the inefficient, poorly designed, and ergonomically retarded Kubotas are just some sort of manifestation of a lunatic fringe for whom ignorance [___] is bliss. Well we may be blissful but I don't think in all cases it is due to ignorance, more likely due to greater than average satisfaction. Sure are a lot of us poor duped miscreants who have unwittingly fallen under the mesmerizing spell of the Kubota mystique.

I think this would be fully inclusive and absolutely accurate if "and/or accommodation of a bad design" was added in place of the brackets.

Not so quick :D

I have been here since shortly after this site was made. It was Kubota only back then. There have been "fanatics" for most of the brands over the years.

But... in many threads over the years, numerous posters have indicated that while they like "Brand XYZ", someone buying a tractor should go out, try a few different tractors, rent a couple, try the controls, before buying. I know that has been my recommendation numerous times over the years. Figure out what you want to do, then look at all the brands and see what fits your application.

Get the tool to fit the job. Same with hand tools. Same with pickups. Sometimes, that tool will be a Kubota. Sometimes a JD. Sometimes a Mahindra, or Farmall...

careful your gonna get the kubotaites on you . you no if it was a good thing kubota would already have it .

Nice snow storm over the last few days. Lots of snow removal. :D

I used the individual brakes to steer when the front tires were off the ground for the best scrapping effect. The right foot was on the hydro controls. The left operated the brake pedals. Ergonomic set up in my mind!:D:D
