Extended or double cab trucks with 6ft beds are just plain yuppy. They were designed for just what DP said. Fits in the attached garage to keep mommy happy. Used to be resale on a 6ft bed truck sucked, now its probably better. For me it would be double cab with 8' w/Hillsboro type flat bed with under body boxes. Got no use for standard bed unless I lived in town and did the grocery shopping for mommy.
Glad you have your opinion.

They all have their place. My daily driver is a regular cab truck with 8 ft bed and will never buy another. I don't usually carry many people, but even when their is only two of us (my wife insists on carrying a bunch of junk with her at all times) there is just no room. Also overall length can't get much longer as I plow a few driveways. Its managable now, but longer would be a real pain. Therefore the next truck will be an extended cab with 6 ft bed. The 6 ft bed is usually enough room. Anything else will go in another truck.

Extended cab, 6ft bed, pre-owned Ram 3500--that's what I'll end up buying--exclusively for towing a 20ft 10K GN deckover.

I'll hang on to my 2001 F150 short cab/long bed truck for hauling 4x8 plywood, etc. It's paid for and only has 93K miles, but underpowered with the 4.6L Triton engine.

I assuming your looking for a single rear wheel truck then?, because Dodge didn't make an extend cab short bed DRW 3500. Come to think if it, I can't remember Dodge making a SRW 3500, (94 - 02', those were the most recent years for extended cabs so I'm assuming those are the years your looking at), though that model would have been more likely to be made so it could still be out there.

At least Ford's short bed in the 3/4 tons is 6 3/4 or 80 inches. I gladly gave up the extra 16 inches in my crew cab to have room to walk around it in the garage and easier parking.

The "mommy's truck" guy probably measures 6 inches with his thumb and forefinger about 3 inches apart.:D

Dodge didn't make 3500 short beds until the '03 style came around. And then they changed to regular-opening rear doors. About the same length, though.

Guy at work just bought a Lariat 4x4 super crew w/6' bed, nice truck by the way, and was showing me all the trick things the bed does. And how if he needs to get plywood the tail gate is made to lay down and make up the extra length. All that plus the creecher comfort for 40+. Lets see I still have more second row seating legroom by far and can still haul full 8' material behind the seats even on rainy days and twelve foot material if I remove the seats. Wheel base about the same. Hmmmmmm what don't I see here. And all that extra junk ya room a plenty.

Ya but its a van not a truck. They have a place but not for most. I could not do 1/4 of what I do with a van. I need a bed and no topper or cover.

I used to be a truck guy until about 10yrs ago. We were building our house and I was always borrowing my FIL's van. So I realized it served my purposes most of the time better than the PU. Sold it, bought a van and have never looked back. If I need to haul loose material or really large stuff I have a dump trailer for that. I recently converted 2 others. One is my neighbor who has at this moment his 1ton DRW out front for sale and replaced it with an 07 1 ton Duramax van. Now instead of everything wet or covered in snow its all dry and secure inside. A guy in the tractor club took notice last summer also and got a 1ton van to haul all his goodies to the show with tractors in tow behind.

How can you hook a gn trailer to a van? :D

The points you make are valid but it has definate limitations also.
