We have a car Dealer in town that posts their bottom dollar price and they stick to it. They dont haggle or swarm you like buzzards when you drive on the lot. It couldn't be simpler for the customer, if you want that car for that price, buy it, if not, don't. Funny thing is, they sell a lot of cars this way. Makes the whole buying process so much easier. IMO that how the world should work.

There are variances to be considered though such as time of the year, inventory levels, floor plans from manufactures, economic forecasting etc. So called MSRP's are now on most maunfactures web sites and are a decent reference for figuring what you can afford and relative cost of options. Take into consideration if the DEALER has to install some of these options and the shop cost they incurr in doing so and if you can install them yourself to save a buck (or if you just like to do it so you understand your machine better).

I take the Price given by Kubota on their web site as the MSRP, since they are the Manufacturer and that is their suggested price. When I visit my local dealer, he pulls out a big book, with all kinds of pricing printed out, then he turns and cranks on his calculator a bit, and then gives me a bottom line price.

I just got a flyer for winter maintenance specials. Cost for my tractor is $300 + cost of parts and oil, for an oil change, grease, and check everything else. Plus $60 pickup/delivery fee on top of that.

Messick you don't want to be badgered and most customers don't want to badger the dealer/salesperson so why don't dealers simply but a price tag on all items and sell the item for the price on the tag. It has been tried and it works at least for Walmart. There are few things I can think of that are more unpleasant than negotiating a price for a car, truck, tractor, ATV, etc.

Do actually do that on some simple to sell high volume models. There are too many options to go further than that.

It's great to live in a country where businesses such as tractor dealerships can be flexible one way or the other and not have to worry about the government setting a flat rate for them, at least not yet anyway.

Mr. Messick, with all due respect-your comment about msrp and not knowing it is poo.
Your pricing on a new GR2110 was exactly the same as six other dealers in two States, exactly.

I am willing to drive a little to get one for alot less than you sell for-why will you take 100% of nothing instead of 85% of something?, how long does it take to place the order, 10 minutes-stay greedy friend.

psst, the economy blows

oh yeah, I forgot; you don't beat the snotz out of every car dealer or tradesperson that you do business with do you???

Good grief, more bizarre than you believing what you think is that you got the stones to type it.

There is more to being a Dealer than just the "deal". I'm not a business man but have had this experience buying major expendentures.
Most tractor dealers have been in business for some time and their overall reputation is known by the community. But it's not the auto industry where there are many, many dealers. Nor is there any comparison to Walmart.
The Dealer's Parts Dept, their Service Dept and even those horrid Salemen can really be helpful and save one big bucks on ideas, sources and DYI stuff. Once your personal rapport is also established, the relationship can really be pleasant in the short and long run.
A Newbie is at a disadvantage due to his lack of experience and doubts. If one wants to drive all over the territory looking for the "deal" have at it. It would be useful for comparisons, I guess. Other makes and models can be compared as well. But often, it what happens after the "deal" that really counts.

oldballs, for dealers to insist on getting their regular margin for simply sitting down and making a phone call then prepping the unit is greed, plain and simple.

Yes for in stock units factors not only justify standard margins but require them, are necessary, floor plans, insurance; having resources tied up-but alot goes away for sold orders when the customer is picking up the unit.

Less resources being spent means that pricing can be lower, unless one is a money grubber.

Greed? Really?

If you don't like his price buy it somewhere else.

It is obvious you know more about selling machinery than Messick's.

Roger that...

Capitalism - lets you vote with your wallet. A "greedy" business will ultimately fail (unless they get a bailout) as they should. And greed can also exist on both sides of the sales counter
