Okay, my 900+ feet of lane is now clear enough to travel over, but it took me maybe 6-7 hours total of forward/reverse pushing and loading. About half of the work can be done by pushing the piles off to one side, using the rear blade and lots of patience, but the other half had to be loaded, backed and dumped wherever I could find a spot. (Too many trees and brush, plus the lane is cut down between banks for some 100's of feet). Other than sore shoulders, from looking over my shoulder all day, and a lot of clutch wear, I'm done. (man, I wish I had a hydro tranny!) Those who observed that just plowing it every few hours, and not waiting until you have 28" to deal with, are correct! My neighbor, who takes care of a half mile of paved lane, has a big 4 wheel drive pickup and v-plow, and he did just that. He said he didn't think he could have done my lane once all the snow was down. I didn't want to stay up all night, so there you go... We had a storm like this in 2003, and I wonder if we will be enjoying more of them, thanks to climate change? I am leaning towards finding a good walk behind snow blower this spring, which would at least give me a way to walk out to a vehicle parked out, worst case. I will attach a foto of my Subaru, just when the storm ended. More cleaning required. Since the University where my wife teaches is closed tomorrow, Monday, all I have to do is go out and get diesel.
