Thanks for the replies.....my 2500 pulls the gooseneck fine (horrible fuel economy though) with just the tractor. If I put a couple of heavy implements on there also, it makes my 6.0L feel like a V-6.....so I'm going to upgrade to a diesel truck with higher towing capacity for peace of mind and safety.........Mike

On top of all that many states require a class 'C' licence to tow above 10000lbs. You need to check on that also.

Class C in California is not what you need you are in Oregon. According to DOT regs to tow over 10,000 lbs gross you need a commercial license. I know I know we all violate that one. The only exception that I am aware of is with the transport of recreational vehicles. The RV'ers have some great lobbyists. :)

I know of no state other than CA that requires a CDL just because the trailer is over 10k.

I agree, Texas is 26000#. I've go basically the same trailer. Bought it last year. I use it to haul just about anything. My tow rig is a 2004 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0L gas. I've had so far 8 1200 - 1500 lb bales of hay as the heaviest load and my truck pulls if fine and haven't had any problems stopping either. Later this year I'll be moving my non-operational RV on it which weighs in about 9500lbs. Good trailer and you'll get a lot of good uses from it.

Enjoy.

FWIW, To reduce the skid potential for the diamondplate on the end of the trailer you could try 3M's hd roll of adhesive with grit embedded in it. It is available in roll form, cheaper then just buying strips of it. It might work if the surface is real clean. You could try contact cement to possibly have better adhesion too. You can probably find it special order in most hardware stores or online.
Good luck.

Here's a link to an ebay seller's supply,(NO connection to me whatsoever!)

Its 26k here in Alabama also for CDL..... I'm towing around 12k weight with tractor, implements, gooseneck trailer, chains etc. It pulls fine, stops fine, but with the 6.0L take offs are slow and fuel economy is terrible. I'm leaning towards rebar for anti skid on my dove tail also....looks like the cheapest easiest option...Thanks for the replies....Mike

Make sure when you look at that Diesel Truck you do your homework. I see quite a few that will tow not much more than your 6.0 I like the Ford SRW F-350 with the Diesel but you must be careful because with the 4 different gearing options, bed lengths, cab options, and 8 or so suspension packages its tow rating can vary 5,000# or so. What I am saying is just because it says F-350 or what ever on the side does not mean squat.

Do your homework!

Chris
