Can I trailer this tractor

I have a 1974 Zeiman gooseneck with a similar beavertail ramp setup. The whole bed is steel diamondplate which I coated with I believe LINE-X or something similar.
I need to ask you-don't your two ramps jiggle around while towing? Your securing chains look awfully slack. Perhaps a pair of turnbuckles could help. My Zieman has a securing pipe for each ramp the pins like a three point hitch. Even then I rope them in tighter while towing.
As far as traction on the beavertail, Zeiman has three pieces of 7/8" square stock 16" long and spaced at 9"oc on each side for added loading/unloading traction.

I went ahead and got a Gooseneck. It is a 8' x 20'+4' dovetail with two 7k axles with brakes. I bought it used, it is a 2005 (year) model and made by Black Brothers....never heard of them but the trailer seems to be made nicely. I was really impressed how well the trailer pulled behind my 3/4 ton Chevy and was alot more stable then a 10k bumper pull that I borrowed. I know I'm overweight with this trailer, like Diamondpilot said, " this trailer is half my tow rating," but the 6.0 gaser didn't strain to much and there isn't any mountains here and now I have a bigger trailer for when I upgrade my truck. your truck should handle your GN trailer with your tractor loaded just fine.- Some thinks a person needs a semi truck to haul around a tractor.

I have a GN trailer and haul a JD 110 TLB that has loaded tires.- I also have other tools on the trailer, and toolboxes that are loaded with chains.-I tow with a 09 F-250 diesel Crew Cab.- I've hauled equipment before that was probably over weight, but around here they don't stop pickup trucks pulling tractors.- Just make sure your brakes are in good shape.

I would put some non-skid paint on the rear.- If you weld 're-bar' across the back, then all that will do is cause you to trip on it.- The paint works great.

You do not have enough truck to LEGALLY handle a GN and your load.

You need a new book.-Outdated.

On top of all that many states require a class 'C' licence to tow above 10000lbs. You need to check on that also.

Never heard of that one before.

How well does your truck pull that load up the hill from the river bridge heading into Newton? Bama67, it is slow on hills and takeoffs but I'm in no hurry when I tow, so its all good. I'm looking at upgrading my truck to a diesel for the extra power and better fuel economy, that 6.0L has horrible fuel economy when towing 12k.


is that a manual grapple or hydraulic on your loader bucket? ecoscaper, it is a homemade hyd grapple added to my bucket and here is a couple more pics of it.

Nice trailer, I recently too was trying to decide between a BP and a light weight gooseneck. I ended up picking up a 20ft BP, but I only had a 1/2 ton, 2005 F-150. But my tractor is about the same weight as yours. I knew you would be fine, because my F-150 towed mine well, so I knew you would be good. Of course it is slower, but what isn't with 10k behind it.

Everyone thinks south AL is flat, but if they saw the road I tow on (189 from Elba to Brantley) they would think other wise. But I still have no problems. I also have never had any law enforcement give me any trouble while towing or hauling. Alabama is not a **** state about things like that like CA or NY.

I just sold my F-150 last week and picked up a 07 Nissan Armada with the big tow package. The SUV is rated a 9,100, thats not to shabby. I haven't got to tow my 20 footer and tractor with it yet. But I plan on it as soon as I get home. Then I will probably post about it, then everyone can fuss at me and tell me that that truck sucks, and it's to small, (weighs 6,000lbs) and whatnot, and that I need a diesel.

You will love the Armada. I have a Titan that I got into after a 2007 F-150 and this Titan will stomp all over the F-150. Mine had the 5.4L and 3.73 gears.

Then why do you see so many trailers with a GVW of 9990 lbs?

I've been looking for a larger cargo trailer(28-30 ft) to replace my 20' and most of them are rated below 10k. I even saw a 30' gooseneck cargo rated below 10k. Seems to me that a trailer larger than 20' should have a higher rating so that you could actually load something into it.

What does a trailer under 10k have to do with a Class C licenses?

If it is over you are supposed to get an endorsement, or what some call a non-commercial class A, which requires a medical questionnaire, and a written and driving test with the trailer that you are going to be pulling. For fifth wheels or goosenecks the cut off is around 15k, depending on the state.
When I bought my dump trailer they had a lot of them with (2) 6k axles downrated to 9990 GVW to get around the law. But then you run the risk of getting an overweight ticket...

So it would be a safe bet to check with your DMV to see what weight your license allows to to pull legally, unless you don't care.

I have 2500HD diesel...and the trailer below I've now sold, but used to haul a Kubota M7040HD...and I never felt I had the trailer overloaded, it did fine. This trailer is very similar to yours. Other than short on power, you should be fine with your setup.
