Pictures from what happed on Day 3 in the build.
First trim piece goes on.

The building started to look as big as I had wanted. On the ground with markers it seemed pretty small.

Shed 16 x 32 (One more 16 x 20 will go on the closed gable end.)

The additional snow will stop building for a few days. The builder and crew were going to head back to Ohio instead of sitting in a hotel for 2-3 days.

The life span is up in the 100's of years as best I can tell. My posts are treated as well. I think some people use them with laminated posts. They are not cheap, you will find them in the 25-35.00 dollar range per post. You can see how they are bolted and the sleeves help aid in preventing uplift. Easy install and peace of mind for me.

Features & Benefits - Post Protector

They say 449 years of service. I guess it would be hard to prove one way or the other.

The great things about this site is we can exchange thoughts and get feedback on new ideas. I find the post sleeve concept intriguing. It makes sense that if you are able to seal off the post and provide some method of drainage that it has the possibility to reduce moisture exposure. Seems like a pretty steep price, but if it works that will be money saved farther down the road.

The weather is going to hit us again in VA today, but it should be much worse in Northern VA. The builders are driving back from Ohio today to finish up on Wed and Thur. My kids are pushing for it to get done so we can move some toys closer to home.
I think the garage will fill up fast.

My little twin granddaughters are asking for the Ranger. Not much fun for them looking at the ground and me trying to talk about what we are going to build.

Then I get to get everything running, that may take longer than the build.

As fast as this build is going, you're probably right.

Nice collection, by the way.

Day 4 up til noon.
20 x 16 Shed Roof Starts
DSC04125.jpg

Siding Starts and SkyView Acrylic Panel
SkyView was going to be 24" but with the 2 x 12's we added it had to take away the opening and make it a SkyGlimpse at best. Not much you can do when the metal is Cut to Length and is on site.

Good reason to put the trusses on the poles.

How come you sheeted the whole thing?

Good reason to put the trusses on the poles.

How come you sheeted the whole thing?

The trusses were set on top of the poles on 8' centers. When we added 8 additional trusses they had to go in between and sit on the 2 x 12's that were doubled up. If you look at my new pictures the SkyView still lets in more light than I imagined. The builders said that if they were spanning the 24" as originally planned, that they would have been pretty flimsy. With the additional board behind them, it really firmed them up with out a lot of bracing. He said it was a cleaner install in the end this way. (Not by anyone's planning.)

Sheeting the whole barn? One it is now rock solid. It keeps the roof from sweating or condensation. It makes for a very quite barn. It seals the building from rodents etc...
I guess it depends on what your end use and how much money you are willing to spend. It added very little to the overall cost in my case. I am guessing about $2400 in materials and labor.

Day 5 Productivity suffered as Day 4 progressed due to the mud.
This is from noon Day 4 until noon Day 5.
SkyView

SkyView blends in pretty good on this wall. I only installed it on this side.

All my windows and passenger doors are in.

Other end was enclosed today and soffits installed on the overhangs.

My new Honda Generator 5000W. Not looking quite so new after sitting in the mud.
I got it off Craigs List. It had 8 hours on it as it was bought at the end of a power outage. Dusty and a few spider webs, not even any marks on the frame or paint. The father died last fall and his son needed money for a new baby. It had the original gas in it so we cleaned out the carb blew out the old gas and it fired right up. The new old battery is not taking a charge but it started with the first pull of the recoil starter. He was asking $1500 but took a $1000. It was a good find.

We are a ways off the paved road. Concrete will be the next obstacle.
