Dave spelled it out in more technical terms and has a clear knowledge of wood species and strengths (great looking job too), Steve has the diagonals laid in perfect, Duffster can teach the laymen how to do it, and Mr. Callaway has a PE on the most important project of all. Now that's a good week plus it's Friday. Think I'll have a glass of wine and take a nap. Just hope I don't have a nightmare over that mud. Occasionally I miss the dirt but never that. Have a great weekend all.

I called the gravel guy to see about getting a few loads for my road. He is a young kid so I am trying to send some business his way. His truck has been down for 2 weeks, but with the rain it really has been too wet to do much of anything. The sun has come out and more importantly the rain is going to stay away for most of the next 10 days. Since I have saved some money in other areas, I have rationalized why I need another trailer. (We now have a car trailer, 8 x 12 Feather Lite Aluminum, 3 rail MC, 7 x 12 enclosed and a 7 x 14 utility.)
I always wanted a dump trailer and now I will pick it up on Monday in WV.
What do you think? $3899 plus $100 for a spare tire.

I want one!.....With that and a mini excavator, good fel or a back hoe you will have all that is needed (besides a real good truck) to move a lot of material from one spot to another in very little time. I used one of those when I removed all the clay from around my basement walls, installed new drain tile and backfilled with sand. I moved a lot of clay about 300 feet and filled in an area on the east end of my barn that was always wet. I raised the elevation of an area about 50 x 40foot about 18 inches. I did it all in one day with a mini excavator and a trailer very similar to that one.

What is the GVWR and empty weight of that trailer? Reason I ask is my uncle has a Bri-Mar that 14,000# but weighs 4,200# so you can haul just short of 5 tons. Not much material at all. Backing that type of weight in the mud can even be a job for my Diesel F-350. I can get a 24 ton dump truck to my house for $65 plus the cost of material. It would take me 5 trips with his trailer so by the time I waist my time, gas, wear and tear on my truck, ect its cheaper to let the gravel pit deliver it. The trailer is great for removing product like brush, dirt, fire wood, ect but to haul it in it really does not make $$$$ for me.

It will carry 3.5T. It is a small trailer which is what I wanted because of the limits of my tow vehicle. I am going to use the local hauler for much of the bulk for what I need on my drive and garage floor. This will let me pickup the large rock, sand etc... that it always seems like I need, but never in Dump Truck Loads. I have 3 quarries within about 20 miles of my property. Crusher Run is $9.50T and #3 is $12.50. My time is cheap and I can work around my schedule. The quote last week 19-20T was $450 TL for #3 and $400 TL CR. They are charging me about $200 for #3 delivery. ($250.00 material $200.00 Truck) or 19-20T of Crusher Run at $400 TL. ($190.00 material $210.00 Truck). I have 3 sons (26,22 and 18) that can all take turns picking up some loads. The youngest is out for 3 weeks since he exempted his exams and one is a Senior at VCU and is done this week until Jan.

Some of the finishing touches will be sidewalks, my fire pit, landscaping and clearing out the woods. It should come in handy.

I will caution you to swing the tail gates full forward when dumping. If you don't they can hit the ground and tweak the hinges......don't ask me how I know......:eek::eek:

Yes, with that type of deliver fee it makes sense. We just got 24.5 tons of #53's delivered about 25 miles for $359 of which only $65 is delivery charge. The material is $12.00 per ton no matter who hauls it.

I just got the stamped drawings back and should now be in business with securing a building permit. I have been fighting all the rain, mud and now the snow in Richmond VA for two months. I have put down several loads of #3 Rock as I am building a good base for my driveway. I have to have access to the building site for the building materials delivery, so the road has to be addressed.
(I am guessing Concrete will have to be delivered when the ground is frozen since I never see it getting hard until next summer.)
The county requires the following to issue a building permit:
2 complete drawings - stamped.
Site Plan
Copy of Well and Septic Permits
Copy of Deed if property has been owned less than two years.
It should only take them 3 - 4 days to approve via the building inspectors.

Muddy Tractor. It was sitting on its axles at one point. FEL saved the day when I was deep in the woods.
