Yeah, you're in for a surprise with the power drop even between the 7.3 Powerstroke (I had a couple of those too, and my wife still has the Excursion) and 7.3 IDI. I can't vouch for the 6.0.

i drive daily a '94 idi 7.3. everyone is right about its lack of power. however it will pull and pull heavy loads. it just does like a much older truck would, SLOWLY. the positives are parts are very cheap, it is easy to repair. but it seems to never break down. i am approaching 265,000 miles on mine and it runs like a top. you will be very disappointed towing at interstate speeds.

hmm interstate towing is exactly what I'm looking for... hmmm still thinking and looking.... will be hitting the next town up sometime to peruse their dealerships and see what I find.

will post back with more questions about other trucks I'm sure.

my goal is a tow v ehicle with as much power ( or more ) than my 04 f250 6.0psd, and more payload capacity / weight capacity for the trailer.

at a cheap price of course.. :)

The only way you are going to match the power is get a late model Powerstroke, Cummins, or Dmax. The only way to get more capacity than you have is go to a 1 ton SRW in Ford or a 1 ton dually in the GM, or Dodge. You can also go the Dually in the Ford.

Now for the cheap part. When you figure that out let me in on your secret.

Its going to be a trade off. A older Cummins or Powerstroke will do the job on the cheap but will not have no where near the power.

Hmm... as long as it will be 'enough' power to get pulled out and up to speed on the interstate.. pull a trailer up hills and have some reserve foot.. I think I will be ok... will just have to see what's out there... deffinately want the 1 ton for the haul capacity..

I hope my f250 hasn't spoiled me on power...???

People bad mouth the 6.0 PSD but its a hot rod. Reminds me of a hopped up GM 350 while the other diesels are more like a big block. Both ways perform the same task, just too different ways of getting there. The 6.0 will wind up quick, especially with a chip and larger exhaust and intake.

Both my 04 and 06 have been trouble free as yours has. Things get blow out of proportion on the net. The 6.0 has its share of issues but they got them straiten out and it proved to be a good engine. It was just rushed to market to fight the Dmax and the damage was done.

I'm quite happy with my 6.0 it pulls great.... my dodge gasser 5.9 isn't even close...

Yea, apples to oranges. The Dodge 360 is the best truck engine they ever had closely followed by the 318. Too bad they got Hemi happy and screwed up the good thing they had going in the bullet proof 318 and 360 truck engines.

I like the 360.. and it pulls my trailer good in town.. but low end torque and acceleration just isn't there like it is in the oil burner..

If you were to find a 2000-2003 Ford F350 with a 7.3 Power stroke, you should be satisfied with the power and you should get better fuel mileage than the 6 liters. A 2000 model is most likely the oldest that you would want to go though and not be disappointed.

Just my opinion
