I live in northern Baltimore county. One of my neighbors has about 800 ft of driveway. I charged him $75. Another neighbor gave me $100 to clean his driveway and parking pad. I heard on the news that guys that do it for a living with make about $1000 a day.

Ask her why you have a washing machine when you could take it all to the cleaners for a lot less than the cost of a washer and dryer, electricity, water laundry room, soap, bleach and dryer sheets. That's an awful lot of investment capital just lying around unused much of the time.

Laughing my *** off on that one:D maybe she could use a wash board and cloths line instead. :D

I don't know...But being self sufficient and not having to rely on anyone is priceless.

Big capital expenditures, sure. But when it happens you're covered. The wife is happy, regardless of the amount of cash I've blown through. No matter what, i've got a tool to do it.

The best for the job, not always. But I can get it done.

That washing machine analogy sure was funny though..Have to use that one.

That was funny!!! ...but before this year, how much snow do you normally get??

My wife thinks I buy too many implements (which I do... if it's a good price:D) Then she turns around and spends $200-300 on seeds and plants... I remind her that's a "tractor implement"!!! So, I'm free to buy another one :)

I also buy used mainly... but bought a couple things at what I thought was a fair price.

My first reply might have shown some attitude. If not, I admit to having one from time to time.

My first wife tried to control everything about purchasing and tried to tell me how silly or stupid spending money on what I wanted was. We lived in the country on acres for probably 30 of our 33 years together. We had horses, a horse trailer and I was forever trying to back my 2wd truck up to a bumper pull pos horse trailer in slippery mud or snow because we didn't need a 4wd truck. Ruined my back because we didn't need a front end loader nor a hay elevator.

Well, now I own a 4wd Jeep Commander with awesome 4wd system, a nice trailer to haul my Kubota and other stuff with, a nice little 27 year old tractor that belonged originally to my deceased brother (bought it from him before he passed on) and now I am building a fel.

I buy a few tools and an implement every now and then. My (current) wife asks me if we needed them and I say no, we don't need them but I do. She gets it. Do I really need it? I tell her I don't need it, but I want it. Then she knows and says Oh, Ok, have fun.

In southcentral Nebraska I use my Ford 9N when the snow allows. Otherwise in a highly drifted snow I hire a payloader to come in and the charge is $150 hour. I have 2- 600' runs each about 40' wide. Can usually figure 1 1/2 -2 hours if the drifts are 4-5 high.

Agree with the $1 dollar a minute figure - that is going rate here in WAY northern New York. There are 2 caveats though: 1) the clocks starts when you leave YOUR house, travel time counts! 2) Remember the family, neighbors, and old people you know. These all add up! Depending on the amount of snow I end up doing 5+ driveways for the whooping fee of ZILCH, ZERO! I may get some homemade cookies, Glog, a knit hat or, (this is the best payment) an honest thank you with a hug and smile. :) Call me a sucker- Priceless I say!

You know, one other thing with equipment is it has great resale. I keep everything I own in a pole barn. I mean everything, eve the trailer. I could get what I bought it all for or more if I sold it today.
