my first question about the toyota accelerator problem is simple:
why didn't any of the drivers just kick the trans into neutral and let the motor blow?
That is a option if it happens in a open area. But some of these people are pulling their car into the garage and let off the gas and the car goes thru the back wall before they have time to even react. A couple of weeks ago in Louisville KY. four people in a 2010 Camery pulled into a store parking lot and car took off as they pulled in to a spot, car jumped curb and went straight down an embankment hitting nose first and going over on the roof in water filled ditch. Driver is paralysed( as of last report). News said one of passengers said they didn't even have time to scream.

If you put it in neutral (blown engine is better than a crash)I wonder what Toyota is going to say about a blown engine( I thing most every car now days has a rev limiter but it still wouldn't be good on a engine) My guess is they would claim abuse and not fix it. Can you imagine all the people who would try to get a new engine by blowing old one on purpose, if they knew Toyota was paying for it.
Really man my throttle stuck wide open an she just blew
TURN KEY OFF or hold in START BUTTON FOR 3 seconds says Toyota.
3 seconds is a long time when car is accelerateing.
It is easy to set at a keyboard any tell everyone what they are doing wrong.
Why do people pull out in front of other people? How can a car cross 100 feet of grass thru a ditch and hit a car head on, on our interstates? Now add a mechanical problem to the equation.
Be careful out there even if your not driving a Toyota, others are.
