I decided to buy the Marlin with the scope so I went to get it after work last Friday but it was already gone. That pawn shop has a 2nd store in another city closer to home so I went there Saturday. They had a 10/22 that I almost bought. I passed on it because it was real dirty and "grimey" inside. I just didn't feel comfortable with it. They wanted $130 for it.

I went to another pawn shop today and ended up buying a Marlin 60 for $89.95. It has a couple nicks on the stock and a couple scratches on the top of the receiver, but other than that it's real clean. According to the serial number it's a 2009 gun, so practically new. I can't wait to shoot it!

I'm going to keep my eye out for a good 10/22 for the right price so I can have one of each. Who knows, I may get into modding the 10/22.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I installed a Dragunov stock on my 10/22. They make lots of mods that can be installed by the owner with no special tools required. I think the 10/22 might be the best "fun gun" ever manufactured. But I have a Ruger 22/45 pistol that's a tack driver and is a blast to shoot.

The 10/22 was probably dirty and grimey because whoever had it either didn't know how to clean it or just brought it in dirty to pawn. Using oil in the action is going to attract dirt.

A lot of folks would be happy to find either the Marlin or the 1022 at those prices.

AFAIK 10/22 it the second most alternated gun in USA. 1911 Colt is the first one.

Thinking outside of the box.. Dont think of it as just a gun, BUT the 'mr potato head' of the gun world.. I have a 5.56, .22, and a 450 Bushmaster uppers and I use the same Bushmaster lower..

This is a RCS upper which uses a 10/22 16" barrel 1/16 twist - I shot this ground hop at about 80 yds

Don't overlook the Remington 552 Speedmaster. It is probably the best semiauto .22 made but it is more expensive.

sorry about that..

I love my AR and try to show is versatility any time i can.. I hardly ever shoot the 5.56 anymore due to cost BUT the .22 is a great way to 'save' money shooting..

the 450B is the newest edition and i got some strange looks at deer camp this year - "that an assault rifle/thats illegal/etc" - they are more traditional and I had to show them how it was just a semi-auto like theirs.. its very accurate and no heavier than my 308 ruger

Not to go off topic, but that is one of the biggest misconceptions the American public has regarding firearms in our society... that "assault" style weapons are horrible killing machines, when, in fact, they are for the most part just a semi-automatic rifle with a different stock. Both a traditional and "assault" style weapon still needs to have one trigger pull for each shot fired. I wish there was some way to educate the American people on this subject.

I would like a BullpupGunStocks.com | bullpup rifle stocks for Ruger, SKS, M14 / M1A and Marlin brands bull pup stock for my 10/22 but imagine the looks I'd get carrying that around. :(

O.K. Off my soap box now. Thanks for listening. :)
