Feb 2010 New Pickup Sales

I thought one bright spot was at least the dollar is at a ten month high vs the euro. A little comfort in that.

JB.

Not really, at least in my opinon for these reasons, the Euro has fallen the dollar hasn't really risen. The reason is debt, France, Greece, Spain etc all in debt. As the eruo falls American exports get more costly over there so less demand, less we export. It also makes in more costly for them to come here, less tourists. George Soros is now rumored to be placeing billions in investments that the euro will fall. Most of the west has borrowed to finance there standard of living, including us. At some point it will have to stop.

As far as GM and Chrysler, my family is done. We have owned everything "American" over the years, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Chevy etc. My dad late last year bought a Toyota. Most of the people I know feel the same, with the bailouts, it wasn't right. If it wasn't for them being UAW they would have been allowed to fail.

Sure seems alot of people feel that way about buying Fords from the sales for the month of Feb. Doesn't look good for the future of other auto.manufactures. Chrysler isn't far or just about in the Neg. from last year.

...but it's to much a stretch of the imagination for me to believe people are so fiscally and socially conscientious that they are punishing the other big 2 with their wallets for needing aid.

I don't think so at all.

My objection to GM or Dodge isn't so much that they took a bailout, but that they are now owned by the government. Ever try to get timely customer service from the Post Office? How about the IRS? Every time I go into a government office there is a master and serf attitude and I am the serf. I do not want to approach a warranty issue with the government having that mindset. And while they might not right now, they can develop it in a hurry under the wrong circumstances.

5 years from now the dealerships and showrooms might very well be considered government property.

So far my F-150 has done pretty darned well, even if I am afraid to take the spark plugs out. Another one will do me just fine.

Too late to edit my post above, but "proof" may be the wrong word, as I have not tried to obtain parts from a Ford dealer lately. They may be just as bad as the others. However my perception is that they would be a a better position to support there vehicles that the other two at this point due to rising sales.

I have a 93 F150 that I kept to use as a hunting truck and have never had a problem getting parts. Not that its needed many parts considering its age. The dealer has even had stuff I consider odd like the rubber shift boot on the steering column that split.

Just imagine if you don't make your payment to GMAC. It will be like not paying the IRS.

I have heard but not confirmed that some dealers are flat refusing to take GM products on trade due to the difficulties in selling them.

I haven't asked anyone about it, but my local Ford dealer has more GM and Chrysler products on the used car lot than I've ever seen at a Ford dealer. I don't know whether they're trade-ins or whether he's buying them somewhere, but he has a big supply of late model GM and Chrysler products on hand.

I think that has a lot to due with where you live. Many have lost GM based jobs here so its a hard sale for GM products living in the mid west auto belt. I am sure things are different in Texas, Connecticut, ect.
