BX2660 vs Deere X748

The big hill should be the deciding factor. The X700 will be a LOT more stable on it.

As for blowing snow with a front mount blower... both machines will produce identical results for similar pricing.

But if you need ground engaging equipment or a 3ph, you need to step up to a JD 2000 or Kubota BX.

The BX and X700 depreciate the exact same from an independent seller. The BX will fetch a higher price at a Kubota dealer much like an X700 will fetch a higher price at a Deere dealer. What you should do is get 50% off a X700 from Messick's after one of his new customers trades it in on a Kubota BX.

One BIG word of caution with the x700 series. There is no other piece of equipment that will depriciate as quickly as these do. You can pretty much knock 50% off what you paid right off the lot.

How about a price for a 2360 w/ MMM and loader. Delivered to Rochester NY. You can PM me the quote. Tnx...

I found several used X748 models on the "machine finder" site...2006 X748 with 185 hours for $9126, 2008 X748 with 200 hours for $9650 and a 2009 X748 with 85 hours for $10,800. I will be the first to admit that asking and getting can be two different things but these prices are a far cry from 50% depreciation the day you buy it.
If I could find one of these "1/2 off list" models I would have a X749 right now. :)
Yeah that might even tempt me.

girls,
i believe our esteemed central pa kubota dealer (neil) was making a trade in guesstimate on what a poor deere fellow would be offered for a relatively new less than a year old tractor (though, i'm not sure . . . but i do know that they're in business to make money . . . throughout their entire inventories . . . he still has to mark up every trade in piece.

regards, shrekbelly

Well tomorrow we are going to hit the Kubota and John Deere dealers to see which machine is most appealing to the mother in law. I will being going to the orange dealer first as the first impression is usually a deciding factor in making a decision. The comfort factor will be the final decision maker as both are great machines for their intended purposes.

If you're going to be so sarcastic you should try not to be so naive....

A trade-in guesstimate from a dealer who has a vested interest in disparaging the competitor's product is worth as much as the paper you'd print it on.

One thing not mentioned in this thread is the convenience, and ease of servicing the tractor, and mounting implements that might be wanted. There is quite a difference between mounting a grass collector on an X700 and a BX for example. The folks we are talking about here aren't young, and it would be good for us to consider their needs when we aren't around.

From what I've read, you can't get a better cut than with the 7-iron, shy of a walk-behind or F-series style mower.

This is a interesting comment. So what is it about that 7-iron deck that allows such a good cut?

BTW, my $.2 here is they are pretty much looking for a mowing and snowblowing machine. If that is all they are looking for and with the hill mentioned, this is a X7xx of choice all the way, for me that X749 is one nice machine and would get my vote.

Before I bought my BX I looked pretty hard at a John Deere X. Very nice but I am so glad I bought a BX instead. The X can mow and that is about it. If you have any thought you might want a FEL get a BX or a John Deere SCUT. I know what you are thinking, I don't want an FEL and will never use one, which is the same thing I thought. I bought one about a month after I bought my BX and half my hours are FEL work. I can't believe an X would be more stable than a BX by much, plus the BX had a roll bar (ROPS) and a seat belt, much safer on the hills.

Where I see John Deere X's being used is high use commercial type settings. I know it is one of the best mowers for doing cemeteries and things like that where smaller is sometimes better.
