New trailer- Show & tell

DDT,

That is a great looking rig, congratulations!

I have a stupid question: I saw the receiver option on the PJ web site but can't figure out what it is used for.

Could you enlighten me?

As Diamondpilot said the option is to allow you to tow another trailer behind the first one. Just be aware this is not legal in all states. Check your local DMV laws re: double trailers.

That and the first trailer should be a GN or 5th wheel type or ya could get fish tailing.

I have double pulled many of times with bumper pull trailers as the first one. Never had a issue but to be fair the heaviest second trailer was under 3,000# and most were in the 2,000# range.

"To tandem pull. I have pulled a Jetski many of times behind my boat and my neighbor 2 doors down pulls his 38'th wheel and a 21' ski boat in tandem all the time behind a Dodge Cummins."

OK, got it. I've seen people do that before, usually a boat behind an RV trailer. That sounds like it would be a real adventure. DDT, what would you be pulling behind your flatbed?

Would love to see a picture of the double-tow rig.

I used to have a bumper hitch dump trailer and pulled it behind the old GN flat bed for one trip to jobs and also used a small trailer to haul equipment for one trip to job site. With a longer trailer hopefully I will not have to use it but for $50 why not have it on there. I have been told (here) as long as the 2nd trailer has brakes I can leagly pull doubles, never had been stopped for it...yet.

Double pull is legal in Kansas according to my book. The only stipulation it list is the total length of both trailers and truck can not exceed 65'. No mention of brakes period or a brake-away. It says N/A for both. The only other state I can think of around here that does not require brakes is Kentucky.

Again, this is just in my book so check the local laws for yourself.

In the peoples republic of New York, If the Polizi ever saw you pulling around anything behind your trailer,You would probably have all your property confiscated.

The word in the RV world is that if it is legal where registered, it's legal wherever you go. I can't speak for how valid that is or is not for doubles.

I do know that IS true for things like trailer brakes. If not required where it is registered, you are good wherever you go, even if they would be required under their laws.

Yes, you are right. I just checked my book for NY and its one of the few states that does not allow double pull. One more reason for me to stay away...:D:D:D

I would check on that. Think about it... You must obey the laws of the state. Like in Indiana we are allowed to carry guns concealed or out in the open. If traveling state to state you must obey the lesser of two laws.
