You mention, Hyundai. I bought about a year and a half ago, a Hyundai Genesis. What a car, to this day, I'm blown away by the quality of materials, ride, power, and attention to detail every time I drive it. No one else makes anything like it for anywhere near its price.
I think in light of all the attention Toyota and now Honda are getting because of potentially dangerous driving situations, we're again reminded that simplicity is the best way to design and build a product.

I don't know anything about Hynudai or how well they're doing, but while everyone else is supposedly having a hard time, our local Hyundai dealer just moved into a big new facility (showroom, service area, huge concrete parking lot, etc.) that's been under construction for the past several months.

Hyundai is an exceptional example in the auto world IMO. 15-20 years ago, Hyundai was a car to laugh at. They steadily improved the quality and even the styling to the point where I think it is an under-rated auto and has been for several years now. You have to give them credit. That takes a lot of management ability to put that together.

My mom bought a Hyundai Sonata last year. I was very skeptical at first, but it is an excellent car. I actually really like driving it, if she wants me to take her some place. The quality has really come around on them and the performance is good too.

As for Honda, my wife has a CR-V, just like the several that she has had before it, along with all the Hondas that her family has owned before that. I would not hesitate to buy another Honda. For that matter, I would not hesitate to buy a Toyota if I really wanted one, heck I almost bought a Tundra when I bought my current Chevy. I think that probably the only vehicle that may have any actual issues is the Prius. I still wouldn't have a problem buying one but there may be a software issue that is causing some problems as it is a "fly by wire" control system with no direct connection between the brake pedal and the hydraulic braking system. As for all of the other recalls coming out, I just think the media is sensing blood and overpublicising things that are pretty standard.

have you noticed that all the recalls for Toyota and Honda are being snapped up by the media. Yet ALL manufactures have recalls going on ALL the time, some serious and some small, but they all have problems, even TRACTORS.
All the talk about Toyota yet VERY LITTLE about the Pontiac VIBE... built by Toyota.... the same model that is being recalled ... i also believe that it's a set up by big brother to help government motors survive.... IMO...Jim

At any given time, there is a lot of recalls. Most are pretty minor issues fixed easily. With all the stuff about Toyota going on, it seems like any recall grabs attention.

Modern cars are really complex. And with all the global sourcing, it is difficult to get everything right. Toyota and Honda have had recalls before, but they get a lot more media attention now. My mother had a Toyota Corolla that had a bad engine several years ago. Turned out, that a lot of people had problems with that engine, but it never got much press.
