120k m, all service recordds.

You're fortunate to have complete records for a 10 year old truck. Hope I can be as lucky when I find the 3/4T or 1T I'm looking for.

quick question.

I remeber back earlier inthe discussion trannies ont he fords were talked about, and some mentioned the early ones might have been weak.

question is on this 450.. wht should I expect from the trans? same trans in a 350?

In the Superduties, the same trans is used from the F-250 to F-550. Four speed overdrive for that year. If the truck is stock and hasn't been chipped it should still be in good shape. I'd change the fluid and filter anyway. Be sure to use the trans fluid Ford recommends.

well, after some drive testing today.. I'm quite certain I'll never get a speeding ticket on the interstate :)

75mph is 3000 rpm!! redline on that truck is 3400 rpm.

Anyone see a problem running at 3000 for a long haul? ( like an out of state run? )

was under the truck locating the 7 pin cable that goes to the bed socket, so I can splice in a 7 pin socket for a bumper pull trailer.. and notice the fuel tank.. a single torpedo style.. I'm guestamating 19g? now I know where there is a 50g tank in the bed!

also am ordering a reese gooseneck adapter that fits on the same rails my reese 5th wheel is setting on. On question.. in lookming in the catalog, I notice the reese lifetime warranty adapter is 257$.. and the 'pro series' is only 197$ and 5yr warranty.

anyone got either.. and is there really 60$ more steel in one of them? from the pics the cheaper one looks a lil more plain.. but still darn stout..

oh yeah.. on the wireing.. I decided against an extension cable from the bed plug to the bumper pull due to the fact it will be another set of 'contacts' in the line.. and another chance for a loose cable.. etc.. thus I bought unit that has the female end and cap to mount at the bumper hitch, then a cable with wire ends to splice in... I think that will be preferable than the expension cable...

opinions?

Make sure you make your connections with heat shrink and solder. Its about the only way you will keep them corrosion free for years to come.

As for the RPM thing I would check other 7.3 owners. That seems screaming to me. I am not sure if it will really hurt anything but just seems uncomfortable. I guess the F-450 was never meant to run down the highway all day long. Its more of a around town type truck.

If your turning that many rpm's you've got the 4.88 axle ratio. I'd suggest swapping it out for a 4.30 or even a 4.10 axle ratio. If it's a two wheel drive it would definately be worth the investment. My truck has the 4.30 and it only turns 2400 rpm's at 75mph.

my f250 only turns 2500 or so with OD OFF at interstate speeds... and this is with OD ON.. with OD off.. she runs even higher.. :)

what kind of a job is it to have it changed over? doe it all happen in the rear end or? or?

IE.. what kind of a bill am I looking at if I take it to my mechanic to do it?

as she's setup.. she was obviously meant to go over the road and not be an in town truck with that special bed and 5th wheel adapter..

as for the plug.. solder for sure, plus was thinking of adding liquid electrial tape before shrink insulation.

Ford puts a axle code on the drivers door jamb data plate. It will say axle code. If its two numbers its a regular diff. Example (75). If its a letter and a number its a Limited Slip. Example (G8). Give me that code and I will tell you what you have. I have a book on towing that list all that stuff.

There should be a metal tag attached to one of the bolts on the differential pumpkin that has the axle ratio info. Like the tag you find on carburetors.
