Thoughts on using a Dump Trailer for hauling my Kubota?

Thanks for the additional info everyone!

Does anyone know why the single cylinder hoist is better? It seems like there would be one less failure point with only one cylinder which is good.

The pics from the other post were great thanks.

Back in the day some commercial dumps used twin cylinders. The problem is if a cylinder or more likely a hose fails the box will twist which could lead to the truck or trailer rolling over. If you look at HD dumps (like those found on road building projects) most will have single cylinders. Those that have two cylinders have them both mounted inboard right next to each other.

Chris,
Can you post some more details on that trailer?
Length, weight, tractor weight and what you are towing with?
thanks,
J

Its not my trailer. I know nothing about it but it could be towed with a 3/4 or larger diesel truck or a something like the Ford V-10. Its one of the members on here. I have always like his trailer and think it would fit this guys needs.

That has to be the most versatile trailer I have seen Redbug. I would be proud to have it behind my truck any day.

Thanks Chris,
Like boats, cars, (spouses?), or whatever...if you get exactly what you want from the beginning, I think you will save in the long run...

Hi

I am just about to buy a kubota B2320 TLB. I want to get a dump trailer to haul the tractor and to use as a dump.

I read the thread and it all makes sense and it is great to hear from people that have been through experiments.

I measured the TLB and minimum of 14' seems right, but that would leave the backhoe bucket outside the trailer.

From what I have heard, you have to have the entire tractor on the trailer.

Also, I want to haul with my F150. specs say my truck can haul 9200#. I know that is the upper limit and not necessarily what I want to haul, but the TLB is 3700# and a 6x12 dump derated from 12000 to 9200 is around 3400# and should be ok for my truck. am I missing anything?

So I am considering a Sure-trac HD 7x12 12000# derated for my F150.

It is low and the Kubota clames a takoff angle of the backhoe of 20 degrees making loading easier.

I was thinking of using the tractor to load the backhoe in the bed of the truck and then loading tractor on the trailer.

is this a recipe for disaster? are hauling laws similar in most states? I am in PA.

Also, has anyone ever sprayed a Rhino type liner in their dump trailer?

thanks for any advice

John

Depending on what you haul/dump a bed liner may not last very long. It would be great if you only haul carefully loaded tractor and or equipment and dump stuff like grass clippings or sand. Larger rock and such will likely grind off the liner.

I have Rhino on a pickup and it is doing OK but if it were on my dump trailer I think it would be pretty ratty after a few loads of landscaping boulders, large (4-6 in gravel), and sharp metal objects.

Note that the capacity of the dump bed will allow you to seriously overload the trailer axles. If you fill it anywhere near full of dirt or gravel or the like you will have overloaded the axles and if you road it heavily loaded you are going to be in for a fun ride in your F-150.

My dump trailer has a 7x12x2 ft box and is rated for 10,000 lbs. I tow it with a diesel F-250 4x4 and it is NOT TOO MUCH TRUCK. I have bent the rear axle from what seems to be a weight overload when dumping when more of the weight shifts to the back axle. I'm not positive but it seems likely this is so since the front axle did not get bent out of shape.

To counter this I can put a couple tongue jacks at the rear of the trailer and crank them down to help the back axle support the load when dumping.

I have a Kubota Grand L4610HSTC and I haul it in my dumper sometimes. The FEL bucket sticks out partly in front of the dump bed and the brush hog overhangs the back requiring the rear doors to be open.

I own a 12' Kiefer built dump trailer. I love it for the multitasking. I haul the skid loader, mowers, and soon my new baby( Kioti-DK45S). This trailer has been a real worksaver for me. Would have loved a 14' one but the price was right. Go with the dump trailer.
