Does Everyone Have a Front Axle Leak?

/ Does Everyone Have a Front Axle Leak? #11
I think you will find that very few CUT front axles are vented.

My 790's is...my buddy's old 4300 is. All of the x70 series tractors (not sure about the 1070's) had vented axles.
So, I'll restate...I think most of the Deere CUTs in the last 10-15 years are vented.
How's that?
Hopefully, some owners of newer iron will chime in...

Well, my frame of reference certainly is Ford/New Holland. And beyond that, I work on more Kubotas than Deere's. And if you check, I'll bet the vents Deere use are not the free-flowing type, but require a certain amount of pressure to build before opening. But I don't mean that in a nit-picking way, even if it reads like it.

Of the (6) tractors in my barn, my 5 year old JD 4120 is the only one that has never had a puddle under it. Of course none of the other ones are green which may be part of the problem.

Probably time to check the oil; all leaks stop sooner or later, you know!:D:D

i don't know of one on my 2001 4300...if there is one, it is plugged because at times i hear pressure when removing the fill cap. point me in the correct area to look, and i'll check it out.

i went out and looked for the leak. yesterday the final drive housing was dry, today, all shiny w/ new oil. but still, not that much came out...only the 1st time was a gusher.

Baling twine or fishing line if tangled up in front wheel will cause leak and probably ruin the seal.

I know better than to doubt you on 790 knowledge Roy:cool:..... but I failed to find a vent on my early '08 790:confused:

No leaks at 270 hrs and don't want'em neither.

These axle leaking threads caught my eye.

I know you (Roy) had an 870 in the past and always spoke well of it.

My 1996 870 has never, ever dripped a drop of anything from any orifice even after 14 years of some pretty severe flogging.

After reading some of these posts, I took my owners manual out to the old girl and looked under her skirt.

What's bizarre is, the manual has a pretty good description of how to change out the MFWD oil. However, it specifically calls out (and has pictures of) the "vents" on the 870's axle.

Guess what? They aren't there! No vents. Nada. Zippo. The pictures don't match the reality.

Don't know what to make of this but I'm glad I bought this tractor when I did.

My JD 4200 at 1000 hours has no leak on the front axle or at least I have not noticed one.:)
Can't find a vent on the axle.

My former Kubota B7100 had no leaks at 3000 hours.:)

Over at the Kubota Dealership I was told that positive pressure in the front axle assembly keeps the water out when working in rice paddy's??:)
