Bar/Turfs - Why are they so unpopular?

I got 1 set of turfs and 1 set of ags when I bought my BX2200. When I do ground engagement work, the turfs spin. When I mow with the ags, they do no more damage to the lawn than the turfs do. The ags now stay on all the time and the turfs sit in the crawlspace under the house.

Under certain conditions, that could be the case. In this situation I'm talking about ground engagement work (ripping/plowing bare ground), so the spinning turf tire isn't doing any damage when I'm trying to tear the ground apart to start with. It's the fact that the turfs don't tract (Latin-tractus: draw, pull; e.g. traction, tractive, tractor) that's the problem.

I had the bar/ag/R1 on my BX220 and liked them very well for mowing FEL etc., never felt the need for anything else.

Everybody likes the median of R4's . They are usable in any terrain . Depends on each application .

This has been discussed ad nauseum. Certainly DON'T want this to turn into yet another 'tire thread'.

BUT, this statement is simply incorrect. They are not useable in all terrain, especially snow and particularly ice. Reports are they are especially poor in these conditions.

To the original question, those tires would be very interesting to me. They have more/sharper lugs than R4's which may make them more appealing in winter conditions. As Mr. Brown pointed out, turfs are great UNTIL they spin. In can control spin 98% of the time through the use of 4WD, but every once in a while (this weekend, for example), a tire slips, resulting in a 6" x 6" bald spot in the yard.
