Bar/Turfs - Why are they so unpopular?

I have the bar turfs and couldn't be happier. Primarily I use my tractor for mowing and snow removal.

Nothing says tractor like a mean aggressive ag tire.

And nothing says keep off the grass like an ag tire either.

My dealer puts R4's on 90% of the tractors. Kind of like how cars all come with all season tires now. They just seem to be a good compromise tire that most people can live with. He tries to keep a set of turfs on hand but doesn't sell them much. The bar turfs look good but look like they might wear fast if used much on hard surfaces. I have R4's, my neighbor Turfs on a bigger tractor than my B and neither one of us have any complaints. The bar/turfs are not unpopular as much as uncommon. Never seen any in person. Cool looking though!

One of the reasons why they aren't very common is that they are only available in a couple of sizes, and I think the smaller B-series tractors are the only ones that can run them (B2320, 2620, 2920). They are not available for the B3200 or larger as far as I know, nor are they for the BX's.

They were quite popular on the smaller JD compacts in the 80's and 90's, such as the 650/655/670 and maybe the 750/755/770 IIRC.

When I went to get my R1s for my B3200, the dealer also had a set of these bar/turf tires on the shelf, they looked like they had been there a while (as had the R1s I bought.) If I were looking at a B2320/2620 for a mixture of yard/garden/snow work I would probably get them.

Had I known there was such a tire I would have got them on my 2920 instead of the R-4's I wound up buying.

I had bar turfs on an old Deere 670 (not sure which Kubota it would be comparable to...bigger then a B7500 but smaller then a B2910).Great tires, actually...good compromise between a turf and an R-1. Haven't seen them in several years. Seems like R-4's got popular and the Bar Turfs just faded away.

Great tire in light tractors, Problem is the threads will rip right off especially on a heavy machine on rocky ground. That is why size availability is limited.
