I was wondering if anyone has converted a rear three point hitch spreader to a hydraulic driven one mounted on a FEL? I was looking at maybe doing this in order to "multitask" while working my food plots. Looking at removing the PTO shaft and mounting a hydraulic motor to it and run it off my front auxiliary port, any thoughts or opinions? I was thinking of something like this one.

I'm trying to understand any advantage gained by putting it on the FEL?
Are you thinking of spreading the fertilizer as you pull a disk/tiller?

Given the cost of fertilizer, I'd sooner pay strict attention to maintaining a constant ground speed and keeping my application rate on target than "saving" a trip across a food plot. The bottom line here for me is, you are looking to spend $$$ on a project to ensure you waste $$$ on rate and swath control of your fertilizer application.

I have thought of the same thing many times. I would be running it on the front end of Toolcat. I was actually going to build a 3 pt adapter plate so I could run other 3 pt attachments also. Problem is I have never actually got around to doing it.

I have an idea in mind to mount an electric seed spreader on the back of my disc harrow to do my food plots more efficiently. I'll just weld a 2 inch reciever tube on the back of the harrow, then rig up the seed spreader to mount right into it. Controlling the speader motor is easy, a simple cable (with a connector) and a switch wired to the battery will run the motor. Working the feed gate remotely to adjust the seeding rate will be a little bit tougher. Need to start looking at what's out there to see what I can do.....

It will work on days that are not too windy. Otherwise, the tractor and operator will have blow back on them. Ken Sweet

And you DON'T WANT that fertilizer getting caught in the little nooks and crannys of your frame, grill, sheetmetal, etc.... That stuff is just too corrosive.

I sure like the fact that you are thinking "outside the box", what I like even more is the fact that here on TBN, you get constructive criticism on your ideas.

I'd look for a 6-8 ft wide drop spreader and adapt it to your FEL. Would be easy to do if you have a quick attach skid steer adapter on your FEL arms. I prefer drop spreaders to broadcast type--less messy, less overlap and ground driven so you don't have to mess with additional hydraulics.

The thought of multi tasking is good, but your driving into what your spreading and your gonna spend a lot of time cleaning your equipment afterward. Especially with lime or fertilizer!
