I have checked it out.

From the articles I have read DDT does not harm people. Also the science was very mixed concerning DDT harming birds and other animals. Some studies said DDT did harm bird shells but other studies said the opposite?

If thousands of children were dying in the US every year, and these deaths could be prevented or minimized by spraying DDT, do you think we would have a spraying of DDT?

By the way to minimize the spread of malaria DDT can be sprayed inside dwellings.

Later,
Dan

So you would spray DDt inside your house?

So I would assume you would spray DDT inside your house to get rid of mosquitoes? Nuff said I think.

Yes I would!
On my grandfathers farm in the 50's we used DDT ,we all applied it by hand and used very little and it worked fine ,other farmers in the area would over apply so much it looked like a sea of pink.
I also remember not having any flea's or ticks now NH is a breading ground for ticks and Lyme disease and EEE. DDT used in moderation works well the problem was it was over applied.

Follow the money where exactly? Is Terminix to blame? Are the termites getting the money? Do you not suppose that just maybe there are folks who have genuine concerns about some of the chemicals we have created? I work with chemicals every day that no one reading this has ever heard of, so I'm not some chemophobic nut job environmentalist, but I don't want my grandchildren sprayed with DDT or any number of other pesticides and chemicals that I myself have been exposed to. I DON"T KNOW WHAT THOSE COMPOUNDS DO IN LIVING CELLS AND NEITHER DOES ANYONE ELSE! The scientists who actually study these things, as opposed to the "journalists" who "abstract" the findings, always note the undetermined possible problems.

It may indeed be a reasonable, acceptable risk to use DDT to control mosquitoes and other insect vectors in places where insect borne diseases are prevalent. To accuse those who see the balance of risks as tending favoring non-use as somehow wanting to kill babies is absurd, ridiculous hyperbole.

Chuck

Chucky....Where on earth did I accuse anyone of wanting to kill babies ?

I am accusing whacko environmentalists of ruining this country...what ? we have a very small group of radicals who are against anything that makes our lives more livable:confused2: and a willing Media to cover every complaint they comes up with and citizens that are too busy trying to feed their families to find out the truth and our country is going down the drain...So yes follow the money on who benefits by outlawing perfectly good chemicals..Where are your facts..prove DDT or Chlordane actually kills people when used properly...get real !

The stuff about the baby killing is kind of ironic because DDT shows up as a breakdown product DDE in human breast milk in a very high concentration.:licking:

Lets say DDT is safe if applied properly and in the right concentration. However it's a chemical that stays in the environment for a very long time and is passed up the food chain. Do you really trust all your neighbors to apply it properly and in the right concentration. Or maybe if not your neighbors, some contractor that may or may not be doing it correctly - whatever correct means with a toxic chemical that will be around for a long, long time.

I sure as heck wouldn't put it in my home.

I know everyone here loves tractors but the environment gets worst each day are there any way to reduce our wastes and etc?

Google Goes Green

Google have done that in their domain, we can too in ours!

Tred getting back to your original post and after reading all of the replies, do you think tractors are a big problem in polluting the environment? How can TBN go green?

You haven't heard about General Motors' next big money maker? Why, the electric tractor, of course.

Yeah, it's probably better to just blast your sheets with DDT than put them in the washing machine. It's a lot faster and if you get enough in there you don't have to take a shower for quite awhile either 'cause it kills crabs too. In fact it might not be bad to use a good chemical like DDT to preserve bread with too, keeps the mold and flies off real good like, yup. :licking: Take er easy.

Wish I'd known about that crab thing when I was stationed in Thailand...I could have used a 55 gallon drum...thanks for the tip. Use some of the money you save on insecticides to buy yourself a sense of humor:laughing::laughing:

Brin,

It was Dan who said the environmentalists wanted to kill babies. I just replied to both your posts in one big spew. You didn't say anything quite so outrageous.:)
