Tractor gun, what do you guys think?

Most often it's a .38 snubbie or a little Ruger SP101. Works great for me.

I have an SP 101. You need to wear suspenders to carry that thing !!!
You could carry it unloaded and just drop it on a snake to kill it !!!

If I had more land where my tractor is, I could see about mounting my 1919 to the rops when it is lowered. Would look great pointing backwards. rofl... this has me thinking.

We are in the 21st century so this is more appropriate.

I don't bother carrying on the tractor usually. Snakes are of no concern and I'm not worried about other critters. Except for the occasional bear.

Haven't had issues with the 2 legged animals there either, not for many years.

Actually, with the right belt it's an easy gun to carry.
By "right belt", I mean a belt designed to handle a holster and firearm. I have a Wilderness Instructor's belt for casual use and The Beltman leather belt for business casual (www.thebeltman.net.)

I do not step outside our home unless I have my Ruger Alaskan 44 mag loaded with Corbon 305 grain penetrator ammunition and my Taurus Public Defender Judge loaded with Winchester PDX1 .410 shotgun shells :thumbsup:. They are with me when I am on my tractor also.
We have a lot of bears around and also mountain lions, and we also live about 15 miles from the Bob Marshall Wilderness. I have noticed when the deer are no where to be seen, it usually means there is a bear or lion nearby . The wife has bear spray stationed at each exit door so she can grab the can when she goes out. If I am in the house and need to send a bear on its way, I will grab the 12 ga. and put a rubber bullet round in there butt and they will leave in a hurry. When the bears are sleeping for the winter, I will switch out the Ruger Alaskan for my Ruger LCP 380. I also go outside with my early warning system, Hanz, my German Shepherd. KC

Holy cow, real wilderness. I assume we are talking Grizzly? You have visuals of mountain lion? That's really cool but I can see why you'd want to carry.

All Firearm Deer Seasons - Shotgun Zone

In the shotgun zone, all hunters afield from November 15-30, and all deer hunters in this zone during other deer seasons, must abide by the following firearm restrictions.... Legal firearms are as follows:

• A shotgun may have a smooth or rifled barrel and may be of any gauge.

It doesn't say a shotgun is or is not a rifle, it says a rifled barrel identified by gauge may be fitted to a shotgun.

What you are ultimately describing is a situation where MI state law differs from federal law, but both are valid at the same time. Under MI state law, the shotgun that you describe is a shotgun and legal to hunt with since you can't legally use rifles. However, under federal law, it doesn't matter what the gun is marketed as, nor does it matter what MI state law says it is, the shotgun that you refer to with the rifled barrel is in fact a rifle. According to Title 18 United States Code (USC) Section 921(a)(5), a shotgun is defined as a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of an explosive to fire through a smooth bore either a number of ball shot or a single projectile for each single pull of the trigger. Whereas 18 USC 921(a)(7) defines a rifle as a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of an explosive to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger. So if you look at the federal definitions even though that shotgun sold by Browning is called a shotgun by Browning, it is considered a rifle under Title 18 USC Chapter 44, better known as the Gun Control Act.

I put a holster on the inside of the fender to carry a stainless S&W 357. The first two rounds are snake loads, the next four are magnums.

Hey Tripler, Yikes, thats what I said the first time we had a 300+ black bear on our back deck only 1 foot from our french doors, which are about 90% glass .

Hey bstrom, Yes we have Grizzly Bear, but I have only seen Black Bear so far and that is just fine with me. Last fall, only a half mile from our house a lady walking her golden lab had a run in with a grizz. The dog went after the grizz, and I saw the repair job at the vet, must of been 300 stitches at least. The dog and the lady were lucky. The lady was ok as the dog got between them. Only got a visual on the lion tracks in the snow, as we usually do not go out after dark. We have a year around creek in the front of the house and the bear seem to use it as a trail. Fish and Game have some collars on some Grizz, and last year a few of them went through the area without anyone seeing them :shocked: .
