I am so happy you are happy..I can buy a better oil for cheaper..That is my goal.

sw03, I realize you are passionate about syn oils, amzoil, UOA and the rest. If there is an oil thread, you are sure to post your thoughts, and that is your right to do so.
But, here's the thing, and I hope you understand.
The vast majority of CUT owners here at TBN run something akin to 70-100 hours a year and change their oil/filter annually. Frankly, even if they used plain old, house brand dino, they are going to get their 10 years or 700-800 hours of totally trouble free use out of their diesel tractors. Maybe at 2000 hours, the difference might begin to show between having used house brand dino for $12 a gallon, or Group 3 synthetics for $20 a gallon or Group 4 synthetics for $30 a gallon. With annual oil/filter changes? I doubt even then.
That would take the 70 hour a year guy 27+ years to reach 2000 hours.!!!!
First, a lot of these guys here at TBN are retired or semi-retired, or if they are younger, they are gonna have likely gotten 3 other tractors by then.
Just speaking for myself, at 100 hours a year, and 27 years, i am not going to be looking down wondering if I should have used dino, Group 3 or Group 4. If I should, through some unforeseen reason, still be breathing in 27 years, no one is gonna let me operate a tractor. Just some common sense reality in the endless Dino vs Group 3 vs Group 4 debate.

I have started using the T6 just because.
As for adding hours of life to an engine there is NO evidence that supports that from a practical point of view.
The 1976 has about 1275 hours on it (about 1225 hours at the passing of my FIL last Labor Day weekend) so it is not worn out by any means. The 1983 JD 310B backhoe only God knows its hours and service record.
The 1992 454 motorhome engine just hit 100K miles and the 1989 Ford F-700 with the 429 Lima engine is showing about 150K on the clock and neither of those engines burns oil/smokes.
I am certain none of these have ever tasted synthetic oil before and these four cost me about $100 more a year for synthetic. Both tractors are subject to use for snow removal so 5W is nice. The truck has been operated in freezing weather and we have stayed in the MH when it was 16 degrees. I am older and my stuff is for fun and not to turn a profit.
We can say what we want and do what we want but spending $$$ for synthetic is like buying a nice steak when eating at McDonald's would have provided for our food needs just fine for that meal. :licking:
Guys have to have something to talk about that at least impresses themselves if not those listening.

If Amsoil would start selling their goods in REAL bricks and Mortar stores, then I would buy it, but until that happens, T6 is they way I will go. I want something that is readily available, that I can buy at any time, Amsoil is not that easy.

Not when you can drive 5mins grab a jug and be changing oil the same day and not get charged shipping that makes the overall price hardly worth it.Direct delivery to your house is 'not that easy'?

Actually, more and more auto parts stores sell Amzoil. That's fine. But at over $30 a gallon, it isn't going to happen. I'm sure folks with differing multi-level marketing connections might do better. I cannot. Frankly, with regular Rotella at $11 a gallon and T-6 at 19.50, my price ceiling has been reached. T-6 at $24? I'd likely pass. Regular changes at 70 hours/annually. That to me is much more important. Shoot, even Kubota brand oil is just dino.

I thought maybe I should switch to T-6. Na, I like Amsoil, but T-6 is more for the 07 and newer emission diesels. This means it is a much different oil. It doesn't have all of some the additives in it so it won't clog pdf's. Oils meant for newer diesels are usually not good for extended drains because some additives are lacking. This is from my Amsoil dealer discussing the new Amsoil 5w40 diesel oil.

I was never a 'spur of the moment' oil changer, so no need to run out and grab a jug.
I always buy well in advance of needing it. Depending on where someone lives in relation to the nearest warehouse, adds to the cost. For me it adds $0.94/quart for a case of oil.
