If I have a JD ballast box filled with cement and try lifting it with a chain attached to the the top link pin ... will it support the weight?

Yes, you can.

Any weight in that ballast box ? :)

Could add chain support to the lower lift pins if worried about the top link pin (I wouldn't, but additional support, including a chain wrap around the entire box).

In the configuration you see in the previous picture, it weighs 473 lbs. With (8) 42 lb weights, it weighs 809 lbs.

Actually, come to think of it, while load-testing the boom pole, I lifted the box with (4) 42 lb weights in it, in addition to the concrete, so that made 641 lbs lifted by the top pin.

What I want to know is, if you needed that much front weight...

...WHAT did you have on the back?

:D :D A double pallet of firewood and couldn't set the top one off with the forks on the 3 ph. And didn't want to drop the plow off to attach the FEL. Made do with the ballast box hanging on the snow plow. Worked great for the brief time it was needed to move the double pallets.

Looks like it did what was needed. Nice looking tractor BTW.

"Nice rig "

beenthere,

Thanks.

I really like your rear pallet fork adaptation. That one it on my "to do" list also.

I didn't think I needed rear forks until I tried to lift my fully-assembled 46 backhoe with the forks on the loader. Could only get it about 6 inches off the ground, but, fortunately, that was enough to move it.
