I think it is time for you to move from that communist state and move to the US.

completely different issue.

We are not talking about a lack of rights. we are talking about people not doing their job.

big difference from that other thread.

It's situations like this that made me join AAA. My sister, who lives in MD, gave me her horse trailer. She and my BIL signed the back of the title. I took it in to AAA and they gave me the form I needed to take to the inspection station. They verified the VIN, the empty weight, the max weight right off the mfgr's plate. I took that back to AAA and to complicate matters, we were transferring a tag from our trailer which was hit and totaled while it was parked at our barn (long story, the impact pushed the trailer into the barn and damaged the barn). We signed the form, wrote a check to the state and a check to AAA. Done deal.

In Oklahoma if a trailer is "Not For Hire" , i.e. it is for your own use and not rented out to any third parties not only do you not need to tag it you also don't have to register it. All is not so simple though in some cases. I had a little hassle registering my Dune Buggy which had been street legal in California and another hassle registering a used sailboat purchased from a friend here in Oklahoma. Seems a previous owner Registered it in Texas and the state misspelled the brand/model of the boat. When first registered in Oklahoma they did a "ME TOO" refusing to correct the Texans error. I demanded it be called what it is and had to go to the top registration trouble shooter at the capital.
He suggested with a case of beer and a Sunday afternoon sail there was nothing we couldn't fix. I got it fixed and he dropped the beer and sail clauses.

Some folks think all registrations should be uniform across all states, e.g. Federalized. Bad idea. We are dong fine without tags on our trailers here in the OK state and suggest we leave it alone.

I have 3 trailers and it simplifies my life. My first experience was when I borrowed a trailer from a guy who used to live on his boat 3 slips down from my slip when I lived aboard my sailboat in San Diego. He moved to Oklahoma 5 years ahead of me and I borrowed his enclosed car hauler to haul stuff from CA to OK. No tags across NM, AZ, and CA while towing with a CA truck and never a hassle with law enforcement. I expected to be hassled about no tag so I had a signed "permission slip" from the owner and proof that the trailer was insured but no problems during the round trip.

neat.

at least her ein florida, the trailer falls under the insurance of the driver, even if he's not the owner of the trailer or the vehicle, unless it is a comercial vehicle.. then it could be the vehicle insurance from the company.. etc.

neat for sure.. now I see why you like it..

Soundguy, ask AAA if they do vehicle registrations in Florida. It might be worth the $150 (???) to join just for this. (Be sure to get a lifetime supply of roadmaps too!)

Here in California, AAA offices must have been delegated authority to represent DMV back in the beginning, and they still have the ability to do registrations. I expect they can work magic if necessary to make this go through.

That said, back when was a teen I lived near the state DMV HQ. Horsetrading various cars and parts of cars, I became very familiar with the vehicle registration loopholes. My ace card was there was one ancient dragon lady in HQ, a super-supervisor over the registration clerks, who somehow had the authority to make 1 + 1 = 3 when that was the only way to overcome an obstacle. And she had a good sense of humor, of course after making a young kid squirm a little. Maybe you need to find her modern equivalent. They don't really have a goal of making you miserable, rather, you just haven't yet found someone with the authority to make this move forward.

My wife has AAA, I;ll have to ask her to call them to see what they say.

As for the people at the DMV.. they are nice enough.. and both the super's there are nice ( strangely enough).. but no one has the authority seemingly to 'make it happen'. it seems like here in florida it is all 'top down' from tallahassee... which seems to be my stumbling block.

Guess it's time to write the governor :)

Or you could move to SC!! We don't have to register trailers, they are not required to have tags on them.
