SHOP RULES!

Never...I mean never...tell anyone (family included) that they can store "a few things" in the corner of your shop for "a little while". Your prized mancave can easily become a storage unit and valuable space will steadily be lost to "a couple small items" from those that mean well but never seem to get around to moving these items out!

Sounds trivial, but what may seem like a harmless act of kindness can get out of hand.

Remember...No good deed goes unpunished!

congrats Jay:thumbsup:a couple points I,m seeing a pattern to:bring your own tools and beer, quietly sit in a corner, don,t pee on the floor and if you,re cute never mind the rules. That about it:laughing:Dave

Thank you kindly, Crusty. To take what you said a little farther; don't pee in my shop anywhere unless it's a pee pot and I'm too poor to have one of those anyway!

Yep.

It's a combination of lack of time and lack of space. Some of my newer stuff simply doesn't have a place yet because I'm running out of space to organize stuff.

'Zactly I plan on making a new workbench for one wall with some proper storage, but first I will have to clean up enough to set up the right equipment to make a new mess :confused2:

Doesn't help that my wood/metal shop turned into a dirtbike/metal/wood shop.

Jay don,t tell anyone I said this, but a hose and funnel through the wall works well.Drill a hole and fill with course gravel and you won,t need the pot.Remember just between us cuz I,d hate to have anyone else know!If you got caught you,ll be puttin (depends) on those horses:DDave

There are no written rules for my shop....... I make them up as I go.
If you come in and have a question or need something, ask if there is a rule.
I'll make one up specifically for you, and just because someone else can do it doesn't mean you can.

Oh yeah, the rules are always subject to change.

I drilled a hole through the wall today and have been trying to get the Border Collie to understand it's purpose all day and he just can't seem to get the hang of it so I guess my shop is still off limits to him except for the rare occasions that he darts in, on the other hand I have not made accommodations for any two legged dogs nor will I ever. If a two legged dog tried that he might have walked in on his two legs but he would walk out on his head. As for myself, I have my own private accommodations and I better not catch anyone with my downy bottle lol. The hole through the wall works for the biggest part of the time, but when a nosy neighbor comes by and is instantly attracted to that funnel and grabs hold of it and asks what that is for and you tell them for some reason their visit is very short and for some reason they always stop at my outside spigot and run water over their hands. A tip for anyone that is planning on building a new shop make sure you include plans for a future bathroom even if you don't think at the moment that you will have one, I am glad I did, even though I haven't installed it yet I already have the water ran out to it.

Running the water out to the shop wasn't any great forward thinking plan on my part, I was running water to a different location and since the ditch ran close to where my future shop was going to be I added a second line, just a dumb thought at the time that worked out for me.

I only have one simple rule. Only enter my shop with a new tool in hand as a donation before making any requests.

I guy I used to work with did this with his outbuilding after it was constructed. At first his wife was pissed at him for doing it. When he replied with, "Do you want my drunk friends tracking dirt through our new house on their way to the can to take a leak?" She changed her tune immediately and told him to put the funnel in.

Since my ex-coworker is know for throwing raucous parties, the outbuilding funnel was a good idea.
