Cadillac of tractors?

   / Cadillac of tractors? #221
If someone doubts the additional power provided by turbochargers, just go take the twin turbo chargers off of a D11 Cat dozer and try to use it. It's a worthless hunk of steel.[/QUOTE]

OK; now explain the reason in thermodynamic terms????:thumbsup:

Now I'm also in a quandary. It's stated that turbo's are the real deal but then It's also been stated that those old tractors just last longer. Them old tractors didn't have turbo's. What's up??:confused:

Should I have an old tractor or a newer turbo'd one?:D:confused:

I cant help on the thermodynamic terms, however, I believe the turbo vs NA is in the eyes of the beholder. Like we say around here. It is a good thing that people see things differently, because if they did not, The men would all want the same woman for a wife.LOL Ken Sweet

I'm not sure there is. Isn't it just me & Rob-D that don't want a turbo?

I guess I'm not willing to argue to his extent; I just figure to each his own.

Well I have no burning desire for one either; none of my equipment has one and it all does what I need, but my needs are not that great. I don't make a living with my machinery and don't run big equipment, so what may be important for someone else may not be for me. There is also the possibility that I don't know enough to know what I don't know.

So I guess we still haven't decided what is the "Cadillac of tractors?". Looks to me like color, size, turbo or not is all in the eyes of the beholder.

Hope you find what makes you passionate.

I think I (the OP) have now determined it, for myself anyway: A Kubota Grand L3940 HST w/ QA LA724 FEL, QA bucket, & R4 tires.

Seems it'll fulfill my "needs" ;) & wants better than the others I've looked at & researched.

Drove one recently & these things are pretty slick:

- Auto throttle. Lets the engine drop to idle when your foot's not pushing the HST pedal.

- Ability to actually drive/ accelerate with only the cruise control level on the left.

Of course, you can turn all the bells & whistles off & drive it like a "regular" ol' tractor (with plain jane HST, that is) if you want.

I think you will really like it. My wife and I were going to buy one or a L4240 when we found a deal too good to pass up on a L5030 HSTC (Avatar).

So the question: Which brand, if any, is the Cobalt of tractors? Which brand uses the best quality, most rugged materials, has the best fit-&-finish, etc., to where you just know ____ is the best brand.

If it was 28 years ago and we were in Japan I would nominate my Yanmar 1802 as being the Cadillac of Tractors. I have a new Kubota L4400 that I love and is much more modern than the old Yanmar but it doesn't even have some of the features that the old Yanmar had such as the 2 warning lights that tell you if your radiator or your battery are low on water, a horn, a latch to hold down the clutch pedal when you sit it up for a spell, a compression release to let you build up oil pressure before starting it after it been laid up a while, a filter in front of the radiator to keep it from getting clogged with debris, a fuel strainer in the tank nozzle to prevent debris from getting in the tank and a few other items.

Also many people claim Yanmar diesel engines are the best and this is why John Deere used them. With many years of use and lots of neglect and rough treatment, my Yanmar keeps going and going and........................:)

Nice tractor. Really can't go wrong with Kubota.

First, it's not arguing, arguing is when ad hominem attacks come into the picture, only one person did that here and it wasn't either of us. It's a debate and hopfully we'll all learn from it.

In the end we'll all go out and fall in love with our tractors once again with a new appreciation for everyone else's tractor. The bottom line is we all have one thing in common, we love tractors. Actually we have two things in common, we love to talk about them too!

Ken: 1 hp = 746 watts; also 1.0 kilowatt (kW) = 3413 Btu/hr = 1.341 horsepower;

Petro-diesel = 130,500 Btu/gallon

The 3320 uses 2.0 gph = 2.0 x 130,500 = 261,000 btu/hr
Since it has 33 hp its efficiency is: 33/1.341 = 24.61 x 3413 = 83,993.93 / 261,000 = 32.18 %

The 3520 uses 2.4 gph = 2.4 x 130,500 = 313,200 btu/hr
It has 37 hp its efficiency is: 37/1.341 = 27.59 x 3413 = 94,169.28 / 313,200 = 30.07 %

Rob, I seriously doubt you could put that much fuel through either onr of those machines.

I have a 265 MF that turns 72 hp on 1.7 gallon per hour. It is even naturally aspirated.
