How long is to long for dealer repairs?

/ How long is to long for dealer repairs? #11
Around me there are two different types of Kubota dealers. The ones who sell to the homeowner and usually carries lots of other stuff. And then there are the dealers who sell to farmers. The second type of dealer usually puts farmers first because they know that a tractor is the heart of a working farm and they will be buying numerous tractors over the years and if treated right they will always come back. The first type usually needs the manual for almost any repair. They seam to know less about the tractor in general, sales and service.

Which is better, your guess is as good as mine. Take a look around at your dealer. Does he have several big jobs either waiting or in the middle of being done? If so he could be swamped. If not maybe parts were an issue. If you broke something that's not normally broken find it could have been hard and once he had it apart he could have found other things or maybe when putting it back together what he thought was good isn't.

I would be nice but keep calling. 3 hours is a little far of a drive but if you happen to be close maybe stop in. If they are a good dealer they will show you, something it's much easier to show than tell, what was wrong and what they are having for problems. I would like to think that in a few weeks they could have fixed it.

The best tractor repair shop in my area doesn't sell any tractors. The second best shop sells Case and New Holland tractors, but repairs any brand. In my opinion, I would take my Kubota to the best repair shop and not the dealer simply because I purchased it there; the only exception being if the repair is under warranty.

2 months is way too long. I would have been complaining after 3 weeks. I try to be resonable, but sometimes things only get done with persistence on my part. On repairs or service, the squeaky wheels often gets the attention. Usually when I take something in, I always ask how long. Gives me a level of expectations and some accountability. Learned the hard way of not saying "I really don't need if for the next 2-3 weeks.";) If you say that, you won't see it for at least 3 weeks.

Well that sounds major,so..unless you can fix it,I'd give them more time as long as they was smileing at me.

Well called back today like they told me to do and left a message for the owner. So will post when I hear back.

It will be 9 weeks on Saturday. When I dropped it off I told them that I was comming back up in two weeks and would love to pick it up then. They said they could probally do that. When I called back a few days before I was going to be in the area they said that the transfer case had just got there that day and it would be a week longer. I called once a week after that not wanting to be to persistant and piss anyone off. On week 5 they said they had it all back together and the PTO did not work so they would have to tear it back apart and would have it done by the end of the week. They have told me that same story for the past 3 weeks. They have told me that their mechanic that is working on it also does deliveries... So he gets pulled away with that. I thought that to be a bit odd...

By now I am not real confident in the repair. I would just assume at this point trade it in straght accross for a new one. :licking: I don't know what their markup is, but 16900 is their price for a new one. I paid 16500 for mine 6-9 months ago. It has less than 50 hours on it. I would not mind trading mine in and getting a fair price for it and paying dealer cost on a new one. I realize they would not make any money on that deal, but they will make well over 4k in just labor & delivery and pickup charges not counting profits on parts sold plus they made money on the first tractor they sold me as well as the impliments I bought.

Ok found dealer prices. Gotta love TBN.

Paying dealer cost; which is right at $15,500 (with a 60" MMM).
It would have been $13,984; without the deck.

Seems to me that they could get 13k out of my tractor easily. Low hours and brand new tires. Maybe they will take 1G and trade in my tractor... We will see

OK, read this whole thread and I'm dying to know how you cracked the transfer case? Is that on another thread? Sure don't want to make the same mistake. Hope you get it back soon and in good working condition.

I really don't know. When I first got the tractor one of the hydrolic hoses going to the backhoe had a very small leak. When I noticed it I tightened it up and went on my way. Then one morning I noticed more fluid under the tractor and decided to take a look under it and there was my crack. We just built a new house and when the did the yard work they just pushed all the threes over into a large pile and I had been moving them and trying to make a managable burn pile the day before. I can only figure I hit on a rock or a really hard tree while moving the logs. What really kills me Is I have had skid plates since day one... But have not got around to putting them on.

Well that sucks. So there's a definite crack somewhere, or could it be leaking from a bad gasket somewhere? Since you don't remember hitting anything, I'd want to be sure it wasn't a factory defect. On the other hand, sounds like your insurance is covering it anyway.

Well dealer never called me back... Go figure. I called them on Wednesday and he said he has someone on it right now and that he was confident in the repair job and that the problem was not they did not know how to get it to work, but was that it is hay season and they have been very busy. Makes me wonder how many jobs have been repaired that came in after my tractor did. He said to call back on Friday and we will talk then. He has another bx25 but does not seem to interested in selling it to me.

As for the dealer cost he said theres is right around 15k now. Not sure if that is accurate or not...
