Its always been kind of hard for me to swallow that Maryland was ever considered a part of the south. Its an atypical southern state, if it is one at all. But the Mason-Dixon is the traditional deciding line. Texans have no problem fitting into the south, and Oakies either. Southerners, usually have "big tent" attitude, though except,Floridians north of Ocala can claim Southerness, but if you fall below that, then you need to submit your accent, lifestyle, and income for further review on a case by case basis. AND if you have never drank FRESH brewed sweet(iced of course) tea, you can turn in your southern resignation immediately. Same thing for Grits (unmolested, without milk added or sweetened, with only butter, salt and pepper unless its cheese grits) and Fried Okra, (not breaded in flour and mushy, but cooked in cornmeal and crisp the way it is supposed to be)
Terms referring to the south, and subdivisions within:
Old South, Deep South,Dixie (alabama for some reason claims Heart of Dixie), Upper South, Lower South, Sunbelt, Bible Belt, New South, Antebellum South, Southern US, Traditional South, South East, South Central,
Coastal South, Coastal Plains,SouthWest (only in reference to Texas and OK in the sense of falling into the category of southern type states), Mid South. What did I miss???
