I see why its primary a European thing. I could see that as very effective on aspen, or SPF ..... but i cant immageing what it would do with something nasty like hickory, sycamore etc

How about apple? That stuff has always been hard on our splitter. Burns nice though.

Probably depends on the size again, also green must be easier to cut than seasoned wood.
