If it were me, I would snag one of those shafts from The Value Barn and bush the 1 3/8" yoke down to 1 1/8". I don't think you can reshaft your old one and add the guard for that price.

Kim

You're right about reshafting. I stopped at the driveline place today, and they wanted about $150 just to put a new shaft in. They wanted over $350 to build me a new shaft.

The search continues.

If you can identify the size from that chart and post it, the wall thickness, and if those measurements are from the inside tube or the outside tube I can give you Baum's price.

Kim

The O.D of the inner tube is 1" (I didn't have a metric tape with me when I was measuring). I'm guessing from the sheet that it's a ByPy series 1.

The price for Neapco brand inner is $45.77 Weasler brand is 43.73
Outer tube is 43.32 and 39.85 respectively. These are all 59 1/16" long.

A guard for it would be about $50 to $80 but I would need yoke dimensions to know which one.

You would have to add shipping from Omaha, NE.

Another source is PTO Drivelines

They are part of a network of sellers that drop ship from one of several wharehouses throughout the USA. I just bought a replacement shaft for 6' mower. The typical shaft is a metric CS44114, 1-3/8 spline x 1-3/8 round rated ~35 hp. I upsized to a higher hp rating (larger yoke bearings and crosses) because the old one tweaked the yokes a bit in use. They tweaked to the point I couldn't replace the crosses due to the bearing bores becoming anti-coaxial.

If you click around their site, you'll find many of the shaft assemblies are broke down into the components. A nice feature.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Kim's suggestion to buy a readymade shaft with a 1 3/8" end and use a bushing. I'm making a last ditch effort to find the right one. I looked closer at the posthole digger and found a logo. As near as I can tell the brand is "Arps".

Has anyone heard of Arps implements?

... I'm going to go with Kim's suggestion to buy a readymade shaft with a 1 3/8" end and use a bushing...

Does anyone know of a place where the right size DOM tubing or readymade bushing could be bought?

I found a place that can get a shaft with a 30mm ID end, but that leaves almost 1/32" of slop. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that.

How is the 1-1/8 shaft joined to the drive collar ... shear bolt?, ... clamp and key? ... ?
