Purchased a NEW 2305, with a fel, 54in deck and backhoe, last week. Was supposed to get it today, got a call from dealer this morning. Its making a funny noise when it's in 4 wheel drive I was told. Ok what about switching tractors I asked. (2 more on the lot) It will take to long to switch brackets around for the deck (backhoe is a 2 mo wait). Went to talk to the service dept, ask if they were looking at it. Nope don't have time right now. Is it me thinking hmmmm the customer just dumped 20,000 on this machine, just maybe I would want to keep him happy and at least start to work on it. Or attempt to try to find the problem. I know it was a holiday weekend, but wait till the last day try it out. Took the rest of the week off on vac. to do alot of work with it but I guess not. Rethinking this deal!!

That bites. I'd be bending over backwards to at least try to show you I was working on it as fast as possible.

What is it with people these days. Does nobody care?

:welcome:

That is great to hear. Look forward to some pics too.

Not sure where you are, but know the dealer(s) around here is(are) up to their necks in keeping the harvesting equipment going in the fields. Hardly get a hi/goodbye from them. They would like to spread their workload out over the year, but it is the nature of the beast.
Nice that they checked on the noise so you didn't have to hassle them to get it back in later. Waiting is like Christmas...comes too slow (at least when I was a kid....now they come too fast :D).

It's not unusual for new tractors to have a few bugs. They have thousands of parts so the odds are at least one of them could be defective or assembled improperly. Just be patient and try to control that "new tractor fever". Hope you enjoy the 2305 for many years to come.

Hey Buckshot,

When I got my 2305 in the middle of winter, it had to go back in the spring to have the mowing system installed. My dealer had offered to keep the parts stored during that time, which was cool of them. (I had needed the tractor asap upon purchasing for snow control instead of waiting for some mowing parts to be ordered and installed.) Anyway, when they had the tractor in the spring, I was given a date of completion to expect. I called the day before to check and was told straight up that they had had some town equipment come in for repairs and "Well, you know how it is...". Unfortunately, that is the fact. They have to weigh their priorities.

At first, I was mortified to be told that, but after thinking about it, I was glad my sales guy was honest with me. From their perspective, a $20K 2305 pales in comparison to much of what they sell and support. If they have a customer who has 3,4, or 10 of their machines, they aren't going to stop working on those and slip your 2305 into the schedule just because yours is a brand new machine and you are a new customer. It's just business.

I don't mean this as criticism, I'm just trying to help you find perspective. Like someone said before, be glad they were up front with you, admitting there was a problem. That sounds like integrity to me.

Agree... As much as it blows to have to wait, be happy they told you about the issue. Otherwise, you'd be waiting for them to haul it back and work on it. And if you had worked the machine and broke it further, they may not have covered it under warranty. Feel free to vent, but understand it for what it is. I'd be happy they at least told me about it and had the integrity to be honest with it...

BTW, you'll love that little machine when you get it home! Congrats!!

Congrats... It does blow when your pumped up to get a new rig to use, especially when you take vaca for it. I will be worth the wait. Maybe when you get it ask them if they would be willing to give you a deal on something since they made you wait. No question they are busy, but make sure it is a good reason they haven't finished your machine. Good Luck- Have fun with it I know I do every time!

I agree. But I also think that what separates a sub-par dealer from a superior dealer is that a a superior dealer understands that to the average 2305 customer, the decision to make that $20k purchase was as significant as the decision of their biggest customer to make that $200k of 4 large tractors. And as such, its their job to cater to me, not my job to understand they've got bigger fish to fry.

If you can't get my work done by the date you promised, YOU should call me and tell me so. I should NOT have to call you to find that out. And when you call me, you should be prepared to offer me some compensation for my inconvenience, say 20% off your service charge or a free oil change or a free t-shirt. Something anyway. That is what a superior dealer does. Because if they don't, then one has to assume that my measly little $20k isn't important to them and if that's the case, I'm more than willing to find a dealer who will value my patronage.

Good luck with your purchase, but honestly if I were you, I'd be in the ear of my salesman and I'd make it clear to him that he's got two choices, make me happy or kiss the deal goodbye. If you can't deliver on time, I understand. But if you can't deliver on time and you want to keep the sale, then tell me what you're going to do in order to make up for my inconvenience. Even with their bigger fish, they need you a lot more than you need them. And neither you nor they should ever forget that. Even Donald Trump understands that $20k is a lot to pay for a freakin lawn mower. Your dealer should understand that as well.
