Oops Bent Bucket

Don't bother trying to push against the topside of the bucket. Put a chain across the bucket and secure it at both sides at the bottom. Put a hydraulic jack between the chain and the bottom of the bucket right at the most bent part and push it back down. You will probably have to readjust the chain length if you run out of jack stroke.

Once the steel is stretched like that, it is hard to regain the integrity of the steel. I would just replace the bucket. I believe that if you don't reinforce it somehow it will bend again easily with any weight in it. If it was off to one side or the other, it would be stronger when straightened. Thank the good lord it wasn't like this.......

It can be fixed. Good thing the bucket bent, or something else would have bent or broken instead. (and by the way, lets hope that nothing else is bent or broken)

You might try something like this only set up on the top of the cutting edge. My bucket was not nearly that bent but it took some effort to get it fixed. It had to be pushed this much (3-4") in the other direction. A little heat would probably help, but be careful as the cutting edge is probably heat treated carbon steel or something like that.

I'd just replace it. Once you've bent it once, it will bend again.

There might have been a shoot, heck or darn thrown in as well.

A friend has taken to the HE double hockey sticks... as of late... it has begun to stick in the office as "awww hocket sticks.."

You can fix it. Find a 8" web "I" beam as wide as your bucket. Find two peices of 6" wide x 3/8 or 1/2 thick about 2' long. Weld the 2' long sections to the out side of your bucket and weld the "I" beam between the 2' long sections. Put it all together so the beam is above the bend. Use a porta power or a 20 ton jack and start pushing it back down until straight. When done cut off all the parts you welded on. I would bend it back cold.

Or take it to the local welding shop and let them do it. This is an easy fix.

You have the right idea.

In my body shop, I would put a piece of plate steel inside the bucket, and using a large hook, I would chain the center down, pulling down on top of the plate. Put a jack under each end of the bucket, and presto.
