Congratssss:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Will you still find seat time for the L5030??

I will still spend much if not most of my seat time on the L5030 as it lives down in my barn. The M8540 will live about four miles away on another farm where my oldest son lives. I will be sharing the M8540 with my two sons, but they work other jobs so they don't have much time to run one except at night or days off; sure glad I'm retired.

Sorry, but I don't know how to do multi-quotes.

Red4now,

It sure is sad getting rid of old tractors isn't it? I think you posted pictures of yours being hauled off didn't you? If I had the storage and $$$$, I would keep them all. Actually we have a MF375 we should sell as we haven't used it in a year, but you know how that goes.

I am sure we will rack the hours up on it as we are way behind on projects.

JohnDeere3720,

Thanks for the idea, I may run the M8540 up here where my two other Botas are and take a picture for my profile.

Doall,

Hmm, thanks, but we have "plans" for a couple of those deer this fall...

Our new tractor was delivered today and they took our old CX80 away.

I was out for a ride last evening, and swung by my Kubota dealer on the way home. They just happened to have an M8540 parked next to a little B like mine. Needless to say, the comparison was pretty impressive, and got me wondering why they don't ship tractors like mine with diapers. :D By the way if you, and your sons ever shoot Ruger's besides the semi auto pistols you can bet that I was involved with them at one time, or another. Glad to see you all maintaining a safe place to shoot!

Heck, you out to look at my BX beside one:laughing:

Well you were involved with some really good products. My first revolver was an "Old Model" Single Six Convertible and still have it. I use to deer hunt with an "Old Model" Super Blackhawk .44 and still have it in addition to a "New Model". I have owned several others and gave my daughter a Seed Six 2 3/4" bbl .357 and my son a Redhawk .44. I can't handle the recoil any more so I usually shoot .40' and .45's now.

Nice. I looked up the specs. With that HP and 5000 weight it would be a hot rod. I think I saw that you got the bigger [9540] tires ... and filled. That should keep it from spinning in hi gear 2wd! [Our L3450 does that on gravel even loaded and with light implement.] Did you opt for 2sp pto?

Congrats on your new tractor. Especially having the guts to pull the trigger. I've been looking for a while and have analysis paralysis. Anything in particular made you go orange?
I'm currently looking at a MF2660HD, M7040 or M8540 and JD5083E. I'd be indebted if you would push me off the fence. I've just bought a place that is growing weeds and saplings something fierce and I need to get after it pretty quick or get a bulldozer.

Yes, I got the bigger tires. It sure will take off; threw a little gravel trying it out at the dealer. It won稚 spin in 2WD Hi, but it will tear the ground up a little so it is going to take a while to adjust to it.

No, I didn稚 get the 2-speed PTO as I don稚 have anything other than 540 stuff. The only people I know that have it are on the bigger tractors. I honestly don稚 know that much about the pros and cons, so I may have screwed up. As I said in other posts, I really didn稚 have the time to do as much research as I would have liked and if I had time to wait would have gone with a few more options.

I don稚 know how much help I will be as my search/purchase was a lot more rushed than I like and is going to be determined in large part by your local dealers. I certainly can稚 point out that one tractor is 澱etter?

I am sure the Massey Ferguson is a good tractor, but having bought two from our only local dealer in the past and receiving very poor service with the problems never resolved I will never buy from them again. I did look at what was available, but their inventory is really limited.

I really like the John Deere 5030E and loved the 5085M as well and could have been happy with either, but again it is a dealer issue. I bought a JD2305 three years ago and had it in the shop several times with deck and deck lift problems. The warranty repairs never lasted long. Finally I took it in one month after the warranty expired and got hit with a $1000 repair bill. I was told the hydraulic lift cylinder needed to be replaced and had nothing to do with the deck lift cylinder problems reported under warranty and would not be covered. Also in my area at least JD å*µenerally cost more and the JD was going to cost a few thousand more.

My Case CX80 just got to be too unreliable and like you, our property was getting away from us, so it wasn稚 an issue of courage, but pure necessity. We manage much of our property for wildlife propagation and establishment of native grasses as well as reforestation. We have a very narrow window of opportunity on mowing sections and it has to be done within a few weeks so as not to disrupt the wildlife and control weeds and 努eed trees? I mowed all day yesterday in stuff mostly over my cab due to the delay.

I have one section that has probably gone too far and like your property has in all likelihood become to rough for anything but a tracked machine.

Finally, I began looking at a M7040, but quickly discounted it as it was not going to have enough power for the equipment I own and for my purposes I really needed the heavier tractor.

Hope I didn稚 ramble too much, but information considered could literally take pages.

"Heck, you out to look at my BX beside one"

Yes, I'm guessing that if you are looking for your BX you would have to walk all the way around your big tractor to be sure you didn't miss it somewhere.

I built 3 .22lr Security Six's once, and liked how they shot. I did all the prototype work on the Redhawk, building perhaps over 25 guns from castings, and bar stock over the period of a couple of years. I built the prototype .32 H&R Single Six's too. I loved that work, but it sure could be an endurance race sometimes when Bill Ruger wanted something to show the gun writers in the back rooms of the gun shows. For the last 20+ years there I supervised all of that kind of thing.

Time certainly becomes an issue wth so many options. 1000 is seldom required, except, I think, for implements over 100 HP, but if you have it its free money when it comes to driving pumps. The Mahindra came with it included [one reason for its choice]. I use it a lot at mid revs when Im hardly workin, and full rpm range for pumps.
