BCS Model 715 tiller?

Here is a pic(with circles and arrows) of the dipstick. As per my other post, put it back in with the flat side towards the center of the transmission.

I really appreciate this. I took off the cap and someone has removed the dipstick or it was lost and the hole seems to be filled with some sort of springs? Possibly the original owner lost the dipstick and simply filled the hole? Don't sound right but who knows. You never know with used items. The owner I purchased this from told me he tried to remove that cap but it was hard to remove so he left it in place. I removed it with a set of plyers. I will remove the springs and whatever else is in the hole and try to determine if there is any oil in the transmission. It runs fine so I would think there is oil? Possibly I can order a replacement dip stick? I am VERY hopefull it is ok.

I'm lost on the thought of springs being in there, got a pic? Call earthtoolsbcs and they should be able to get you a dipstick. Far as I know all the parts are still available.

We no longer have the 715 pictured so I can't measure the dipstick length either.

I can take a digital picture but I am uncertain of the file size I can download on this site? I will also call earthtoolbcs tomorrow. I just took a closer look. I took out what was in the hole. It is actually some sort of nylon mesh looking plug and not springs. There does appear to be some oil in the transmission but it was hard to see. I shook it and saw some but I do not know what is the proper amount without a dipstick. I does not appear to be dry. I want to drain and replace the oil but I will either need the dipstick or know how close to the top the oil goes.

Transmission oil filler area that was plugged with a nylon mesh plug and no dipstick.

I took a long plastic wire tie and put down the hole. There was oil on it put to about 6 to 8 inches. The oil was clear and did not smell burnt so I guess I just do not have the correct filler cap. I will check the tine area for the oil tomorrow. Thanks again.

I think you just got the top off the dipstick, all the black plastic comes out of the hole and the mesh you see is just part of the vent that is built into the dipstick. Take the rest of that black part out, usually they stick pretty tight, and you will see the rest of the dipstick.

There is nothing else down the hole except for a piece that runs through the middle of the hole a little way down. Are you suggesting I try to pull up the entire piece of black plastic that the cap sat on? That seems to be mounted pretty secure to the transmission. I went out and removed the plastic piece attached to the transmission that the cap was attached to and that did include the dipstick. I REALLY appreciate your help and I need to get a manual for this tiller as I had no clue nor did the previous owner. There seems to be plenty of transmission oil and it is clear with no apparent issues. I will still replace. Do you now what is the recommended transmission oil.

You pulled the top off the dipstick, all the plastic needs to come out.

Thanks again for your help. Again I do not have a manual for this unit. Do you know how I can check the oil back where the tines are?
