Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

Have you actually seen the ad the is currently running on TV. It is a direct SLAM to the John Deere brand and I would assume the Mahindra dealers can pick up on that and use it as a marketing gimmick. Ken Sweet

Ken, Mahindra has worked hard for years to achieve this milestone. Should they have kept quiet? Yes it is marketing, but that is part of the process of building a brand. And it has been effective at getting the name in front of people.

No, they should not keep it quiet, I was just making the counter point about your saying "Just a simple statement to keep overly enthusiastic dealers from declaring that we are bigger than JD, which we surely are not." I can't see Mahindra dealers doing that. Ken Sweet

Ken, let's get back to work. :)

Mahindra is looking to increase its marketshare in the US. Whether you like their tractors or not, you cant fault them for that.

If they are number one in sales worldwide, but lesser known in the US, it seems like a good business strategy to advertise their global position in order to convince new buyers to make an extra effort to take a look at them.

If other manufacturers are selling more, it would be easy to refute Mahindra's claim.

The fact a company is number one in sales of anything impresses me. :)

This is starit from the Mahindra website.

"Today M&M ranks among the largest tractor companies in the world with sales of nearly 85,000 units annually in 10 countries. In India, the largest tractor market in the world, Mahindra has been the number one selling brand since 1983.

In 1994, the company entered the American market as Mahindra USA, and in the few years since, its tough, dependable tractors are being sold and serviced by hundreds of leading tractor dealers throughout the country. Here in the United States, we perform final assembly and conduct a 51 point pre-delivery inspection, including dynamometer and road testing to ensure high standards of quality. Our focus is to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction and dealer support.

In 2003, Mahindra USA opened a second assembly and distribution center in Calhoun, GA, 68 miles north of Atlanta. This will more than double production capacity to meet growing demands for our tractors. "

It sounds like some Mahindra tractors are also assembled in the US just like JohnDeeres.

I'm pretty sure the words "we perform final assembly" mean exactly what RobD is saying... loaders and 3pt arms. Otherwise they would write "we assemble." Can't exactly blame an Indian company for doing the majority of the work in India however. We could use more of that here.

I find it interesting how no one here is willing to debate this on the numbers. All you guys will do is the same thing as Mahindra does... continual chest beating without any attempt to back your statements. "JohnDeere3370" found a statement about selling 85,000 units anually." I can find all kinds of stuff in the annaul report that shows just a tad more than that... but NO WHERE does there seem to be a number big enough that comes close to confirming this statement. I'm looking... is anyone else?

Hey... I sell 50% of the Cub Cadets in the USA
(USA, as defined as within 3.26 miles of zip code 17022. Left hand drive units only)

Couldnt have said it better.... Show me some numbers and an actual explanation of what they're counting and maybe I'll "believe" it.

Seriously in terms of GLOBAL sales, I'd probably have an easier time believing Kubota or Yanmar is #1, I've never personally toured china, but from the sounds of it, every rice paddy farmer over there has 2-3 Small Kubota/Yanmar Machines with 2 point tillers...

Congrats on your EXCELLENT Market Share & Sales of CC's
:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

IMO the Mods should just lock this thread because like you said, its just Mahindra lovers chest pounding and everyone else saying "prove it"...

I think you've got it covered. To me the real question is what are they claiming to be #1 at because obviously their own numbers show it isn't total unit sales.

All you guys will do is the same thing as Mahindra does... continual chest beating without any attempt to back your statements.
If you're going to make statements like this you might want to think about how many times you've claimed an X400/500/700 series loses 50% of its value within the first year without being able to show a single one for sale at that price point.
