"If you can walk naked out of your house and p@e from your front steps then you can claim that you don't live just on an acreage but you live in the country."

I used to do that until I killed all the flowers!

I think we all can agree if China and India go on to be the top two financial leaders in the world that we will see more of their tractors and not less. :D

UK is talking about the desire for Africa to be the happening place of the century as far as development goes. Should Africa just double their consumption it would be a boom for basic hard working long lasting tractor sales.

I am not sure JD, others are even positioned with a low end work horse of a tractor like Mahindra has. Not sure they would paint a line green for JD to resale either.

Remember when Oliver then MF were world leaders in tractors sales? Things NEVER stay the same for EVER. :D

Entrenched success is the worst thing that can happen to the company. Especially when a lawyer or MBA is a CEO. They cut R&D spending keeping the old ways doing it claiming this how we have always done it and this is a good way.

according to the page below they sold 1 million (question about a typo or misplaced comma?)tractors in fiscal Year 2010

Untitled Document

your reading the comma in the wrong place. Its says 100,000.

Neil, we have been through this before. Show me the total amount of TRACTORS sold by Kubota last year and tell me if it is over the "peanuts" number of 175K.

[Dave's]. I've never trumpted Kubota as being a leader anywhere but the US. On the scale of global equipment companies they are a drop in the bucket. Your making some assumption there just because I sell it. My point is, and continues to be... that no one has ever presented anything that gives Manindras AG sales to be even within striking distance of the likes of CNH, Agco, or Deere. I see 175,000 tractors in their stock report. No one else is offering up any other data. We all know these numbers are hard to break down, but that does not seem to be a big enough number to make the claims they are making... and we all know Mahindra is often less than honest in their marketing claims.

Yes and no. These people aren't stupid, look at old companies like HP and Tektronix. HP instruments have been the benchmark of test equipment. Now they are called Agilent but their inovation has kept them on top of the design engineers curve. HP printers are some of the best in my view also.

JD is a lot more innovative than it might appear. Electronics in their tractors and new lines for example. Any company can go under but I wouldn't underestimate either Deere or Kubota. Will the lemmings run to the sea? You always get that but Rolls Royce still sells cars in spite of it.

I disagree "that we all know that Mahindra is less than honest in their marketing claims". But it doesn't surprise me that you would take that shot at Mahindra. You are well respected when you stay in your realm, I just don't understand why the need to fling mud at Mahindra.

Back to the subject, you said Mahindra's worldwide tractor sales are peanuts. Does Mahindra outsell Kubota worldwide in tractors? We both know the answer is "yes", so I'd appreciate you not taking a shot a Mahindra every chance you get. In the USA, as you have said, it isn't even close. Kubota outsells Mahindra by a long shot. Kubota sells a great product through a very good dealer network. The actual post was about world-wide sales, and that is where Mahindra's numbers shine.

NO, I believe they omitted a zero....only selling 100k tractors is "peanuts" when they actually sold over 1 million...and I think you mean "you're" not your...

and we all know Mahindra is often less than honest in their marketing claims.

NO, just you doubting thomas's ...There is a thing called "truth in advertising" and I do believe that as big of a marketing campaign that Mahindra is putting on...advertising on the most popular and highest rated on air programing on both radio and television as well as print ads...if they could not back up their claim they would be hit with lawsuits from any and all competitors in the market...Just because you don't like to hear that Mahindra now sells more tractors world wide than ANY other company does not make it un-true...

and BTW...the trouble I had with Messicks I would doubt what they/you say over a company like Mahindra...!

True, BUT I dont think anybody has seen the fine print on exactly what they are counting? #1 selling tractors in what year? What models? What are they counting? etc...Most other advertising no matter the media state that info...

I mentioned it before...I Can "honestly" say that I have the most powerful pickup truck*

Fine Print: **based on pickup trucks located at 123 MyAddress, Maine as of July 26th, 2010.

No different then when Chevy has the ads on being the most dependable/longest lasting full size pickup trucks. The fine print from the Silverado website clearly states: "Dependability based on longevity: 1981-July 2009 full-size pickup registrations."

I've not yet seen any disclosure or such on what Mahindra is counting. Dollars? Quantity?

the advertising states they (mahindra) are "The #1 selling tractor in the world"
it's plain english IMO...I think if Deere or any other competitor had problems with what is being advertised they would seek proof or take action...they would owe it to their stockholders...surely with their (Deere's) market cap. they would not just stand idle if their competitor was blatantly misleading the public with their advertising...

it has NOTHING to do with reading the fine print or convoluting the numbers...IMO,making analogies about fast cars or pick-up trucks is just subterfuge by the doubting thomas's

Not dollars, but tractor count, and a very good question. I like your "most powerful pickup truck" analogy, BTW. :D

This is taken from some Mahindra advertising guidelines:
IMPORTANT: The #1 message must be stated in a certain way in order to be accurate. Mahindra sells more tractors than any other company in the world, so we are #1 in terms of sales volume. We can say "World's #1 selling tractor" or "Global leader in tractor sales", but we can not say "World's largest tractor company" since there are other tractor companies with more employees, assets, revenue, etc.

The above statement was not designed for public consumption, just as a guideline to keep dealers on the same page. Just FYI for anyone wanted to take it apart word for word, it wasn't designed for that. Just a simple statement to keep overly enthusiastic dealers from declaring that we are bigger than JD, which we surely are not.

Have you actually seen the ad the is currently running on TV. It is a direct SLAM to the John Deere brand and I would assume the Mahindra dealers can pick up on that and use it as a marketing gimmick. Ken Sweet
