That was me in my 17 hp x300 until I got the B2320. That is WHY I got "a real tractor". I had to just creep and overlap, and it took an entire weekend for 2.5 acres. The mower came with the place.

Life is good again, meaning only that I have more time for other PITA projects... X300 still in service for around the house.

:cool:You all may not believe some of my old gezzer stories, but....when we first moved out of the city to my 3 acres in the country(35 yrs ago), all we had were the four kids, me and 3 push mowers. The kids worked their butts off doing stuff out here. When the weeds got really tall over the septic drain fields, I had to swing a scythe to get 'em down. Well, I was one of those poor saps mentioned above. But not any more. Anybody want to buy a scythe?

I believe you, that is close to my story except no kids.Neighbors helped some, borrowed several different mowers to get a better idea of what I wanted but the entire 3 acres never got mowed until it got the 8N. Probably spent 8-10 hours behind the push mower a week :ashamed::mad: The wonder is it took almost 2 mowing seasons to change it.

I think alot of us started that way years ago, I know I did. When you start from the bottom clearing a field with a water jug and a bushhook you can really appreciate all the tractors and implements along the way. Fastforward to the new tractors we have today and you have to luv em. I feel I have put my time in doing things the hard way.

I have to agree wholeheartedly ..I have put my time in years ago doing things the hard way too..I can still remember me being out in the pastures on a riding lawn mower with grass up over my head and slow going for days until I had it all knocked down using the highest setting I had to raise the deck up and overlapping the whole way...Then came the ford Jubilee ...that was sweet ! and then the JD 3020...ahhh, now that really made it fast and easy and now I mostly use the TC -29 D since it fits in under the trees and into the woods where I need to go..but things have changed and made it so much easier..still work and time consuming but less tedious for sure..:)

Scythed a half-acre recently. Didn't trust the previous owner to have removed the boulders. :) In fact, I still make a point of doing each job once by hand before I do it with the tractor. I get a better feel for how much force to use, and where I'm likely to screw up.

I mowed 5 of our 10 acres with a 28", 13hp Snapper REM the summer before building our house. Mowed some dog fennel that was about 5' tall. Purchased mower in summer of 1997 and still using today. By the time I finished mowing, it was time to start again. Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed it. Tough mower, replaced couple belts, batteries and not much else.

Reminds me of the old days when I got my first place in the country and all I had was a 21" walk behind mower, by July, I resorted to tying it on the back of my pickup bumper and driving reaaal slow. Didn't do a very good job, but shore was a lot cooler in the AC.
Thank goodness I finally got a Kub.

Given the shape of the hood, although hard to make out, I'd say that's an old, old machine. Late 80's, early 90's Murray or some such. I note the manual deck engage arm.

Not bad for a 20 year "cheapie" lawn tractor. Fact is that while the creature comforts weren't there, and those older Craftsman/Murray type machines weren't built all that great, it just goes to show that many of them lasted a good long time and took an amazing amount of abuse. Their owners didn't have a million bucks in them either.

I'd be willing to bet his profit margin on the job was a lot higher than ours.:D
